hey guys i owned alot of dsm's and been working on them for alone time but that what happend to be today i dont get..i have a 1997 gs-t turbo 5speed fwd..i was talking to my friend and the car was running for about 20 min then i shut off the car cause of these gas prices ;-/ 10 min later when i was done talking to him i go to start my car and it idled like sh*t and stalled tried 3 more times and it stayed running but running like crap ..i knew it wasnt running on all 4 cyl so i unplugged each fuel injector one by one and cly 2-3 were'nt running..so i was like balls what im i gonna do now ..so i hop in the car with it runing crappy hop on the highway and 2 min into the drive it runs good again ..any idea why ..car has an s-afc stock injectors 14b 255 fuel pump..nothing else all stock...

If you are having problems with "hot starts", driving the car...shut it off to go into someplace for a couple minutes...then come back out and have problems, more than likely it is the fuel pressure solinoid. It is designed for just that...hot starts. At a certain temp it will activate and pull from the outside instead of from the intake mani under vacuum. It is the same as removing the vac line from the fpr. It raises the fuel pressure to avoid "vapor lock" in hot conditions.

Easy enough to check, try starting at the house shortly after a cruise. If it is giving you problems, shut off the car, remove the vac line from the fpr and see if that lets the car start as it should. The o-ring is a possibility, but I would think you would have drivability problems as well.

There are several possibilities for this:

Incorrect spark plugs, incorrect gap, incorrect torque. Engine running too lean or rich at idle. EGR leaking, o2 sensor, cracked vacuum lines can cause the problem.

Taking it for a drive could have burned excess deposits off the plugs and it will be fine for a while. This will require getting involved to sort some of this out.

Keep us posted,
Cheers,

i dont think its spark plugs or wires ..there all brand new ..gap is at .30 i think its either in the ecu ..has something to do with the spark or fuel

maybe its a bad cam angle sensor, i was having similar problems car runnin on 2 cylinders ect and just tappin on it would cause the car to die or run perfect.. just a thought

i dont think its the stock fpr ..that would'nt make it run on 2 cyl..if that was the case it would'nt run at all

Hey guys sorry for starting this tread up again but my car did this same thing again ..but now when it was running like crap i swapped out ecu's and still run crappy..i checked for spark and cyliders 2-3 nothing ..only 1 and 4 had spark..i drove the car to my house running on 2 cyliders..5 min away from my house it went back to normal i dont know what the hell is up here ..any idea guys

Instead of just driving, why don't you just try and hold a steady rev just under 2k for bit and then drive it. I wouldn't surprised if it runs normal after that.

the car will not hold a steady idle . it running on 2 cyliders..sometimes when i try and floor the gas it goes to 3k and stalls..its not the intercooler ..that doesnt make sense..i'm coming to think its either the coil pack or ignitor..i mean what else can it be :-/

actually that's a common problem on 2Gs. I've seen it on 1Gs too....just not as common.

what does cylinder 2-3 not getting any spark have to do with the intercooler??

I never checked the cylinders when this happened but the symptoms are nearly identical.

i know its not the intercooler cause i parked the car..was running fine b4 i parked it ..went to the gym 2 hours later went to go start it and this happend ..so the car was sitting for 2 hours ..so its not a heat soaked !

:( :sosad:

well what have you replaced to try to fix this issue.. it could be soemthign as simple as a short or your PT (power transistor) not plugged all the way in.. you need to check for shorts throw some parts at it and judo kick it in the tail pipe..

I'd think it's coil pack. See if it's mounted well and tight. It gets hot when running and it needs cooling. Well it cools from the aluminum surface it's mounted on. That's why when you're moving it gets back to normal. Let us know what fixed it though. Also, make sure the mating surface is clean so it gets good heat transfer.

My tsi runs like crap when it warms up to operating temp.I replaced plugs, wire, coil pack, transistor, fixed boost leaks,etc..I turned off each injector with my logger and no change on the #1 cylider. So I checked the injectors with my ohm meter:2.8,2.8,9.8,then infinite.S I have one totally dead injector and another on the way out.140,000 on em too.Check the injectors just to be sure.Mine misfires and acts stupid,I think the injectors just fire when they want to anymore.
