Windsor,
So I'm driving down the road just minding my own business when the tach goes to zero. At roughly the same instant the car starts slowing down - just lost 100% power. I hit the clutch and it stalled, luckily I was close to home and coasted to the driveway.

Any idea what's wrong with it? I looked at the coil and didn't see any missing/loose connections, but it won't start.

I'm leaving right now to grab a spare coil and will try and swap it right now, but if that doesn't work I'm at a loss.

I didn't hear any popping noises or a burning smell in the interior.

I'm assuming the problem is ignition related due to the tach falling to zero.

compression is fine. I pulled the timing belt cover and the belt is intact, though there is a bit of play.
Verified no spark.

Changing the coil pack now, hopefully that's the problem.

:tease: your stuck....so when are you coming over...bob wants to see you..
good luck with your car i hope you figure it out...

car is 100% bone stock aside from a K+N filter, removed silencer from maf and disconnected clutch switch.

Coil is out! New one going in right now.

Just for kicks I just cranked it over with the injectors out and they didn't spray. The CAS is still connected. And yes, they're still connected to the fuel rail.

1. check your ecu and make sure it's working, if it's not then repair or replace it.
2. read out your ecu code, it might give you some clues on what the problem is.

this happend to me but it was because my timing belt jumped and the CPS was confused, and resulted in no spark.

Good luck :thumb:

how do I pull the codes from the ECU, I was under the impression I needed a logger to do it (which I don't have)

How do I check the ECU to see if it's working, also?

The compression seems to be OK (I didn't check numbers but it SOUNDS fine)
The car was at about 3000RPM when it died (50mph in 4th or so)
How can I tell if the timing belt has "jumped"? I've got the cover off allready but I don't know what to look for.
I just grabbed a transistor pack and CAS, I guess I'll swap the transistor pack now while I wait for replies :)

EDIT:
Figured out how to check cam timing. it appears to be OK.

k. Swapped transistor pack. No dice.

Figuring out how to swap cam angle sensors now.

I definetly think your on the right track..Do u have access to a scan tool at all? If you have no spark and u just replaced the coil pack, U want to be sure that cps is communicating with the ecu.. This will help you in verifing weather or not the ecu is not working or the cps is pouched.. The scan tool data should be able to show you if the cps is communicating with the ecu.. Let me know how you make out

I don't have a scan tool :(

Swapped cam angle sensors. No spark/no start.

on a whim, figured out where the ECU is and pulled it. Opened it up and booy did it smell nasty. Pulled the board and there was a scorch mark, it looks like the capacitors leaked too. I can't tell if the board itself is damaged or not - but I hope this is the cause of the problem.

I'm just looking now to see what ECU's are compatiable with what other ECU's. I'll try and find an ECU to swap tomorrow, maybe she'll run then? :)

You can read codes with a analog volt meter, by putting the leads on two of the pins. But i'm not sure what ones. Then count the sweep. Wish i had my book here i would tell you what pins there were.

I hope it is the problem, OMG.

Any chance that my ECU could have a scorchmark and PCB damage (it is damaged) and the car still runs fine?

I'm going to try and track down an ECU tomorrow, it looks like any 1991-1994 turbo ECU will work.
