My car is a 97 N/T 2.0 dohc 420A engine. When accelerating at full throttle the car makes a really high pitch loud whistling sound. It sounds like its coming from somewhere under the hood. It starts at about 3k-4k RPMs and continues till I let off the gas and in all gears. The car has just had a new timing belt, accessory belts, and water pump put on, so I don’t think its that. Could it be one of the pulleys? I have noticed other eclipses on the road make the same sound. Is this a common problem/sound???

Thanks for any help and replys!!!

hehe! i dont think its my CAI. it it made that noise before i put that on. Anyone know what it is???

thanks for the replys!

My auto instructor told me it might be a hole in one of the baffles in the muffler. I have no problem with it cuz it makes my car seem to have a turbo.

Mine makes the same sound I was told it was probably cause there is dint somewhere in my exhuast. It is not really something bad something small and minor that shouldn't effect they way your car runs. Just sounds like your turbochrarged. If you sit it in N and rev to about 4 grand and keep tapping on it, it makes it sound like you have a blow of valve. But hey I might be wrong thats just what i was told.

so it may be a hole in my exhaust. ok ill look into that.

as for trying to pretend its a turbo. well let me put it this way. if it was a turbo that would be fine but its not. i dont like trying to act like my car has something that it doesnt.

I want to find this problem so no more posts about "it sounds like a turbo and i think its cool" because i dont think its cool and it sounds bad!

Thanks for the replys!

Easy enough to find out if you have a hole in your exhaust....use a piece of wood block to cover the exhaust on your muffler, and listen/look for leaks underneath.

well i think i found the problem. i replaced the muffler with a Flowmaster rear section and now i dont have that stupid whistle sound anymore. i guess its just the stock muffler that dose it.

Yeah... the whistling is just the stock RS/GS muffler. I put a GST muffler on mine and poof!... no more whistle. I really wasn't sure what was going on with the car. Needless to say... I was very pleased it was just the old muffler whistlin.

my friends type r does that depending on how much gas he gives it. we figured its the flapper in the throttle body catching the air at an angle thats causing the whistling.
