I need some help. I have a 1991 Talon Tsi and im wondering if i can do an Evo swap to it. I would like to try it because i cant find any motors with under 100,000 miles on it so im trying to decide if this would be the smarter choice. So I have some questions and im wondering if anyone can help me. Is there any difference in the 4g63 of the evo and the talon. Will it fill properly? Is it smart to do such as swap? What would i need to change if anything? Thanks for any help

An Evo swap would be an extensive undertaking requiring new mounts to be fabricated for both the engine and transmission, especially since the engine was turned around to accomodate a redesigned transmission after the Evo IV. You woul also have to fabricate a new wiring harness or at least find a way to intergrate an Evo VIII wiring harness with your DSM wiring harness. To be honest, that's a lot of work just to get the car up to 276 hp. A lot of work, time, and money that could be better spent on rebuilding the engine you have, or starting fresh with a bare block and cylinder head and building that up to a high hp level.

The engine you have is a strong foundation. There's really no need to try to reinvent the wheel here.

BTW, have you done a compression test on your engine? If the numbers are consistent across the board, there's no reason to pull the engine you have, even if it is a high mileage engine.

yes you could with enough money and time but that would be one crazy fab up job you would need the engine trans transfer case find out if the t case output shaft has the same spilne drive as the drive shaft and even if it would line up right and if the gearing in the diff is the same also need the wireing and comp plus custom exhaust turbo setup fuel lines intercooler pipes and so on and so forth so you get my drift its "possible" but why not use the money for a down payment and just get a evo

with money like that...you should just go a build up your block and head. it would be much more effective and would require no custom fabrication. plus you would still have money left for a nice turbo

^These people are right. With the right amount of money, most everything is possible. Build your engine better (can it be?!) than a stock evo's and be happy that your 91 just laid smack on someone else's large investment. I imagine the wiring and mounts would be too much for your local fab shop to handle.

No, it would not be a smarter choice. What is wrong with buying a longblock and rebuilding it? You could probably buy and rebuild over 10, 6 bolt 4G63's for the price of what you'd be looking to spend to get an Evo 4G63 to work in a DSM. Not worth even thinking about.
