i just swapped a Galant VR4 transmission into my 92 TSI AWD, the transfer case does not hook up right to the transmission. where could i get i new gear for my transfer case? does anyone know what the spline count should be for a GVR4 transmission? shouldnt mine hook up to it, please help:dsm:

count the splines on the trans output shaft. then count the grooves on the transfer case. the normal 92 talon trans should have 23 splines i believe. i have a spare transfer case input gear/shaft whatever its called that i think is 22 spline laying around. let me know if you need it. i'll let it go cheap.

count the splines on the trans output shaft that goes into the transfer case. i will take a picture of the input shaft on the tranfer case and post it asap.

You will Most likly have trouble going into gear too.

I had to modify my shifter cables to accomodate the gvr4 tranny.
some have simply swapped out the cable brackets with some success. the braket that holds the cables at the tranny side.

22 spline is what you need, gvr4 = 90 model stuff

This is all assuming its a JDM tranny u refer to.

i just found out that i had a 90' transmission in my car already, thats why i doen't hook up right. i counted the splines on my old tranny and it was 22, now i guess i need a 23 spline input shaft

i dont think it was a jdm GVR4

ok i want to revive this post a little bit to shed some light. i'm about to get a vr4 tranny and i want to see how easy it's going to be to swap into my 1990 dsm. Is the spline count on the vr4 tranny's 22 or 23 and besides modifying the brackets, what else did you guys have to do to get the vr4 transmission to work in your cars?

I am wondering what needs to be done to the shift linkage to get it to work. I bought a 90 with a gvr4 tranny that wouldn't go into 1, 3 or 5. I can get it to go into gear with my hand, but I can only get 1 of the holes in the bracket to line up where it will go into the gears. Should I just drill another hole in the bracket or is there something else to do like swapping linkage?

whats the spline count on a 88-89 JDM GVR4 5-spd AWD trans? 92/92 1g AWD is 23 am I correct?

22. The 90's are 22 and from 91 up they are 23. The JDM transmission and a shorter shift linkage, which I prefer to use.
