I read somewhere that if you flush the antifreeze out of the system and put straight water back in, it would run cooler....is this true and what are your thoughts of it. Would it just be better to buy a smaller fan and shove it in somewhere possible and purchase a low temp thermostat?

I am trying to be ready to be prepared for the hot days approaching us.

Water is deffinatly the cooling ingrediant in the cooling system. If you want to get rid of the antifreeze fully, i sugguest running Red Line's Water Wetter with water. It will Lubricate the system and keep your temps down at the same time.

Yes this suff deffinatly works. I ran it for a little while, lowered my temps quite a bit.

Straight water can remove more heat from the system than water/antifreeze mixture. The problem is protecting against boiling. Straight water will of course boil at a lower temp and create air pockets, hot spots around the head. Even thought the temp gauge may show lower than 212 degrees F, the head will have hotter spots than that. You will probably have to run some mixture of antifreeze, but maybe you can get away with 10% or 20% instead of 40-60%.

How was your misture setup? 1qt/top off with water
I dont remember exactly, but on the back of the redline bottle it tells you how much you need to run if ran with straight water. It also tells you how much if rand with a mix.

I agree with mobythevan. But if it were me, I'd just stick with the straight 50/50 mix to keep the water from boiling and to keep everything well lubricated. That should keep the engine plenty cool.

In the summer, I run an 80/20 water:antifreeze ratio. One year I tried to get away with something like 95/5, and that was a bad idea. When I drained the radiator out that fall, my rad. hoses had pieces of rust in them........ :notgood:

But yeah, I do 80/20 with some WaterWetter in the spring and summer. My plans for this weekend actually include switching back to my summer cooling setup ;)
