I have a 90 TSi, compression reads 152-140-140-151 my question is how much longer do you think this motor has. Compression was all around 153-155 untill thermostat got stuck closed  .

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I would say that your headgasket it leaking in between cylinders 2-3. If you overheated the car you might have warped the head or something along those lines. When you do you compression test make sure all of the plugs are out and you hold the throttle plate open. This will give you the most accurate reading. Then squirt some oil in the cylinders and do it again. If the number comes up to normalish then your rings are going out. If it stays basically the same you have other leaking problems. How hot did you get your car when it overheated?

His questing was how long do you think the motor will last.

Dave i already gave you my opinion, i think your fine. Just keep checking compression on a regular basis.

Stroked - He did put oil in cylinders 2-3 and compression did come back up to the 150 ish mark. Its his rings, they are worn a little.

Just figured he would see the part where you should get your car maintained or if it's "okay". His car is "okay" but I also think new rings would help.

I understand that it is ok, and that all the cylinders are within 10%, i know that the rings are worn. Has anyone honed and put in new pistons and rings with the block still in the car. I would think my bore should be within spec if just the rings are bad unless i drive it too much and i get some piston slop.

my compression #'s are, 80, 85, 95, 110. Of course not everyones car will run like that but it gives you an idea of how low you can go ;) and no, you need to pull it to hone it, it would be easier to pull it anyway.
