Hello. I'm 16 and I own a '92 Laser RS (Non-Turbo) and I am having some problems.

These might have been answered before, but I don't even know what it's called so here goes...

Sometimes, after I kick up the RPMS up to around 6, when I let it slow back down, the engine revs back and forth from about 1500 to 1800RPM without me touching anything. If I hit the gas again, it usually goes back down, but I would like to fix this.

Also, I have had to adjust my driving with my 5-speed to allow the RPMS to slow down before I shift, otherwise it grinds. I'm not talking like a little slowdown, I usually have to bring it down to 2k or less RPM.

It has a plethora of other issues, but if anyone could help me with these, it would be greatly appriciated.

P.S. Do you guys have a ton of extra bolts in your center console?
 
im not to sure about yur first problem possible vaccum leak or iac problem ... but about yur second problem that sounds like bad syncros ... does it grind in all gears?? ... or just certain gears .... if it grinds in all gears could be possible missadjusted clutch ... try readjusting yur clutch

first problem:throttle position sensor(TPS)....second problem:clutch master cylinder,slave cylinder,preassure plate-bleed the clutch and see what happens.If all these parts are fine then you might be looking for a new tranny.
 
The idlel problem sounds like you iac is going out its the sensor on the bottom of your throttle body. it could also be your tps. you need to test them with a volt meter. In your repair manual it should tell you how to test it. As for the transmission grinding its definatly sounds like your syncros are going out.
 
Usually it is only in the second and third gears. Sometimes the third gear grinds even when it has been coasting in neutral for three or more seconds. I haven't had any problems with fourth and fith, and when I first got the car, third was not giving me any trouble.

Could the fact that three people learned how to clutch on this car be a factor? All the grinding could lead to busted gears or something, right?

Hopefully I'll be able to bleed the clutch soon and tell you guys what happened with that.

Also, my car doesn't appear on the list of DSMs when I registered here. It is a Non-Turbo Laser RS.
