I cannot get the crank pulley off for some reason. I have removed the alt. belt and the drive belt and the center bolt on the pulley. I used the 3-prong harmonic puller but I ran out of threads on the bolt before pulley came off. I can tell something has shifted b/c the top of the pulley is now completely against the metal frame in front of it. I cannot get this thing off! Will try and post pic in the morning.

Try and find something long enough and strong enough to slide into the hole and try again. Those holes for the bolt are long, so I used a backwards drill bit just a little smaller than the hole to give me enough length.

The pulley simply won't come any further off. The upper portion is being blocked by part of the frame and cannot move. Could the engine or something else have shifted over???

Did you pull the passenger side motor mount off?
It will let you drop that end of the engine enough to get the clearance you need.
Mike

Thanks. I will try lowering it in the morning. Here's a pic just to illustrate what I was talking about anyway. Chilton book showed plenty of room without lowering the engine.

My Haynes was messed up too, no mention of dropping the engine. Fortunately I'd helped my dad change the mounts a few months earlier so I knew what to do. Just lower the engine a few inches and you should be fine.

Yea bro, that is about nromal clearence for it. Just drop it a little and you should be good to go.

Argh! Still cannot remove the pulley. Raised the engine, removed passenger-side upper motor mount, lowered engine, got a little more clearance but still will not come off. Do I need to shoot some lube on there to get it off? Do I need to remove the lower front motor mount to lower the engine even further? The harmonic puller I'm using ran out of threads while I was tightening it and won't go any further and it still isn't even loose yet!

W-D40 will work, but if you can pick up some PB blaster and spray it in the hole and let it sit it should come loose.
