This morning I go to start my car and it won't start. The battery seems fine. The radio and lights work fine. I tried a few times and one time I actually got it to start but it turned off before I could even blink. I don't know what the problem is. I just got my timing belt changed a few weeks ago. The spark plugs are new too. I am a big noob when it comes to fixing cars. I really don't have much money so a mechanic is a last resort. Yesterday It was working fine. When I went to get my timing belt changed the mechanic said that the radiator hoses needed replacement I said I would change them. Do you think it could be that? Also I hear the starter trying to start it but it just won't start.

Pull the plugs and crank it to make sure you have spark. Check to be sure you're getting fuel as well. If the plugs are wet after cranking you're probably getting fuel.

Pull the plugs and crank it? So I take the spark plugs out and than I try to start it. How do I tell if I have spark?

Yeah. You will see the spark across the gap of the plug. Just set them on the valve cover. You'll want to have a friend look if at all possible.

What I usually do is start checking at the source of the problem and work backwards. In this case, pull the fuel line off of the fuel rail and watch is squirt fuel when the car is cranking. Make sure the line you pull off is the one coming from the fuel filter. On 1G DSM's this is the one on the driver's side. The other end is the return line.

If you're not getting fuel from there, next thing to check is the fuel filter. It's located on the passenger side of the firewall in the engine bay. The fuel line going into the bottom of the filter comes from the fuel pump. You can disconnect this and check for fuel delivery while the car is cranking again. By the way be careful while you're doing this. Don't smoke or light any fires with open fuel lines. :)

If you're not getting any fuel into the fuel filter, the next thing to check is fuel pump. Usually when you first turn your key on (but don't turn it all the way to start the engine), you can hear it spin for a second or two.

Hope this helps.

Check your fuse box for the fuel pump fuse... it may have blown...

if you have a multimeter you can check voltage at each injector to see if they are pulsating.

Hey, I am in the same position, I can get the fuel pump to run and the engine to run only if I hot wire the pump but I can't find any fuse or relay in the box near the battery, or in the car but didn't think it would be there. This is a 95 TSi. Can anyone tell me where the fuse, and relay, for the fuel pump are? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks, Garrett.

Have you tried giving it a bit of gas when you try and start it ? Did you check to make sure you're battery terminals are on tight ? Do you have a Check Engine Light on ? If you have a coolant temperature sensor code, then that could be you're problem.

on a 1g its the MPI fuse mounted right on the + terminal.

I'm running into similar problems as 99EclipseGS-T was. And most of the help in this blog was helpful, but I was hoping someone could tell me for sure where the fuse for the fuel pump is. I've got no fuel coming through my lines, and i just checked the MFI relay and the Fuel pump relay, and both relays are functional, but the one on the left isn't getting any voltage, so i'm thinking it might be the fuel pump fuse. Many thanks to anyone who can help me out here.
