hi i am new to this forum and i am about to buy a 91 talon tsi fwd. the kid called me today and said that there is between 50-60k on the block and 10-12k on a rebuilt head with springs and valves and all that, it was rebuilt at turbo trix in nj. one problem he said was that he needs to frequently add oil because it leaks from somewhere near the oil pan. sorry i dont have more info than that but has anyone had a similar problem. the only other thing tht he said was that when he gets on the car a little, it blows out some black smoke. hes askin like 1300 for it and i want it as a project car but i dont wanna go through too much trouble with this oil leak. so if you an please help me out with it. thanks

btw: i talked to a friend of mine and he said that it might just be the gasket around the oil pan.......does the oil pan on this car come off without taking the engine out????

Ok, the black smoke is the car burning fuel ( thus running rich ). That is normal for a turbo car. For the oil leak check the oil filter housing. It could be the gasket on the oil pan as stated above also.

The oil pans are removable with out pulling out the engine. Since it is a fwd you will only need to unbolt the down pipe from the o2 houseing and push it off to the side out of the way. Its really not the difficult, you just need to kinda manuver it around the oil pickup when taking the pan off. Good Luck. Oh and the black smoke is gas like K Hill said it just means its running rich.
