Ok, I'm not going to go into extreme detail, I'll just give you the situation

4G37 1.8

Alternator belt jumped partially off crank pulley.
Belt started rubbing against timing belt cover
Belt snapped
Car almost overheats

Belt fixed
Car has hardly any power now
Horrible tapping sound that appears to be coming from the valvetrain when under moderate load. (under light or full throttle it doesn't do it very often))

Belt shaped hole in timing belt cover

I have to drive this car to work in the morning (10PM now) need help!

Is it still ok to drive for a day or so as is?

Update:

Car won't rev past 4 grand, after 3,000 intake sound is VERY loud, and engine misfires alot and stumbles when driving light throttle.

I'd suspect jumped timing, possible bent valve(s). Line it up to TDC and check the marks.

Check for boost leaks, and check your timing.

I don't think it's a boost leak considering it's a 1.8 n/t...WTF

Check your timing marks as previously mentioned.

You might have messed up your valves.

If you get the marks lined up and it still acts weird, it would be a good idea to start pricing valve jobs or a replacement head before you go into work tonight

If you get the timing marks lined up and are CERTAIN that the timing belt isn't going to have the chance of snapping/jumping, then it would be my GUESS that it would be okay to drive. Although if the valves are bent, which I hope they aren't, it's going to suck driving there.

Check to see if your timing is off like above. But if it is, don't bother with priving valve jobs. The 4G37 is a non-interference engine. You could snap the belt at 4k and not be likely to cause any valve damage.

Would the off timing cause the car not to rev past 4000 though?

I kinda figured that i jumped a tooth when it lost power, I had the same thing happen in my Shadow. Thank god for non-interferance engines. :D

I haven't gotten a haynes manual yet, so I don't know too much about the engine itself. I assume that the 4G37 has 2 timing belts like the 4G63... one for the cam, and one for the balance shaft, right?
