ok first off i would like to say happy new year to you all & thanks for assisting me with other issuse i have had regarding smoke out of my exuast wich turned out to be the head gasket ( nice ). Now however when driving down the highway there is some road noise wich only seems to be in side the car & sounds like 33inch swampers on my eclipse, the noise seem to pick up with the momentum of the car not the rpms of the engine. you can feel it in the floor borads like the is a something rubbing on my tires(yes i check all 4 & didnt see anything or any sings of rubbing). any help would be greatly appreicieated. thansk

ok thanks man i really appreciate it. i will add it to the list of things to do

no problem. good luck!

It could also be the tires on your car or the alignment of the wheels. My g/f's civic did the same thing. She just delt with it until the tires needed replacing and when she got them replaced they did an aligment on the car as well and it took care of the problem. It was loud enough that she couldn't hear me on the cell phone on the interstate, if that gives you any kind of idea what was going on with hers. Definately something that you need to check out.

I always thought that wheels bearings made a high pitched noise. At least, that is what mine is doing and I know that it's going out.

ok thanks i know the tires are bad & that the sound is a low pitch. also i forgot to mention that at one point it did go in to the ditch @ 55 mph

Another good way to check for a wheel bearing is to jack the car up and pull on the wheel with both hands at 12:00 and 6:00 on the tire. Any kind of movement will generally indicate that the bearings are going. While the car is jacked up, have a look underneath and make sure you don't have a CV boot that tore and leaked out all it's grease.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Generally when checking wheel bearings, you put your hands at 12 and 6, not 9 and 3.

cool, Thanks guys i will be checking all this out tonight. i really appreciate all you ideas, if you have any more feel free to shoot them my way.
I am actually lucky the car runs i think, i bought it for 300 $ & when i went to look @ it, it had 2 flat tires( off rim) & sitting in thewoods coverred in 3 ft of snow, the guy showed it to me when i asked if it ran he brushed the sno off the driver door got in & fired it up. said it had been sitting for about 2 months. so he inflated the tires dug it out, low & be hold i drove it about 1hr home with no problems. lady luck was riding shot gun the whole way.
