Urgent -- door won't shut...yay

I just had the opposite problem, of a door stuck shut on my passenger side a month or two ago...

now today I go out to warm up my car, and when I close the door on my way back into the house, driver side door won't close. The lock is open on the door itself, and I can manually lock it with my hands or a screwdriver, and both the interior and exterior handles will open the lock mechanism.

For some reason, it just won't latch shut at all...I even tried locking teh door and then shutting it....nothing.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. I was about to go out for a friday night, and am currently stuck...I'm oiut in the country aways, and all my roommates are gone.

Anyone who could at least point me in the right direction would be my savior.

Spray it with some kind of penetrating fluid, Or loosen the part is latches to and move it around until it gets to the spot it latches at, Don't forget to tighten it everytime you try an adjustment, Or it will not work most likly. When this happen to two of my cars, The first car I did as described above, The second car I had to replace the latch mechanism as it froze and no longer worked.

so you mean, try making the open position of the latch more closed?

I guess I'll go take the panel off....wasn't looking forward to taking the panel off in the freezing ass cold dark on a friday, but what else can I do....meh.

I had a similar problem with my drivers side door last winter. It turned out to be a lack of lubrication and the extremely cold Ohio weather my car went through. I unloaded a can of PB Lube on it, and then put even more WD-40 on it, and it fixed it for awhile. It wasn't a permanent fix, but enough to get me through the winter with both doors shut.

Yeah, I have a bad feeling now....

I latched the door shut, however when I stuck a screwdriver in where it should be latching around the door....it opened pretty easily. I suspect that's why it's not latching. Anybody know what it is that is probably causing that to happen? It's so damn cold out there. I might go out if I get pissed off enough and try to take off the door panel, but I'm not sure if I'm up for it.

I have no idea why it wouldn't be latching well, but that seems to be the problem.

No, I meant to adjust the actual stud on the door jam. So the locking mechanism would grab the stud at a different position. Move it outward a little bit and see if that works. You do not hafto take the doorpanel off to do what i'm talking about.
