I really dont have any idea what is wrong. I have good oil pressure from what i can tell. However the oil light will flicker on and off every now and then. The level is still within range on the dipstick.

Any ideas?

There a few few ideas. Make sure the oil level is reading full. Make sure the wire from the oil filter housing is not shorting out or coming unplugged. And make sure the oil ight sensor is not bad. As a last resort if none of that checks out, it could be time for a new oil pump.

I know the pump is good. I just replaced it. he wire seems to be on there. How would i check the light sensor?

I know for the oil guage you test it by turning the key on, touching a test light to the end where the plug attaches, and then ground it if the sensor is ggod the guage will peg to high,if bad it will stay on low. I think the oil light is the same but I would wait to see what some others have to say.

there should be two sensors on the oil filter housing.. i THINK - they're both spaid like plugs.. not sure though. positive there are two of them. i would just keep your oil filled to the max and check for leaks... good habbit to do anyway.

There are 2, correct. The smaller one on the front side is the oil light. The larger one on the bottom is the guage.

i have the one hooked up for the gauge. The other one is hangin there. Could be causing the light to come on when it hits somehing. I dont see where this one would hook up at though.

found where and how it hooks up at. Problem is it broke off. Can i drill a new hole and screw it back on? possibly cut the old one off and use a new circle wire conector on it???

i am having a similar problem to that my oil pressure gauge isn't working and my oil light constantly stays on but it goes off while its at idle and then kinda flickers before all of this started my oil pressure gauge just up and quit one day while i was leaving work my bro took it to his work to see if they could fix the problem SEARS AUTOMOTIVE they said both wires were hanging so they hooked them both up and ever since then my gauge still doesn't work and the light stays on constantly while driving so i don't know whats wrong could anyone ### help me out its a 95 gsx by the way thanx in advance

This is for Project Draven. The two sensor wires were probably swapped - gage lead is on the oil light sensor and the oil light lead is on the gage sensor.

I believe the pressure sensor is an on/off switch grounds/closes circuit below a certain pressure and as long as the oil pressure is higher than the limit the light stays off.

The gage sensor has a variable resistance - the higher the pressure the lower the resistance.

So, if the light is connected to the gage sensor it's always grounded and it always stays on.

If the gage is connected to the oil light sensor it is never grounded if you have good pressure so it never shows a reading. If the oil pressure drops suddenly the gage will jump all the way to high pressure and peg the gage.

Then again this is for 1g and I can't seem to find my manual right now.

Good luck.

Maybe they connected them backwards. The oil light connects to a oil pressure switch (light sender in pic) with a yellow/black wire. With ignition key to "on" (engine not running) disconnect this wire and light should go off. If you ground this wire the light should go on. If light is on all the time with wire connected, the switch is bad.

The gauge connects to an oil pressure sender (see pic) with a yellow wire. If you disconnect this wire and ground it, the gauge should read max (ignition on). If it does but when connected and engine running it doesn't read properly, the pressure sender is bad.

Another thought is to add Lucas oil additive. Id straighten out your sender problem first, but the oil addive helped me get rid of lifter tick in my talon. In my Pontiac it helped raise oil pressure thus getting rid of the check oil light. Stuff works great.
