97 gst one day it just stop running that's all i know. ok it doesn't have spark i checked. I'm not sure if is getting fuel or not and i had to jump the battery? I'm gonna try to hook my shop computer to it to see if it has codes but usually when battery is dead it won't have any codes. so has any had anything similar? it just stop runing ooh and a week later this happen his AFC got stolen would that be a problem this happen after the car stop running do.

How does his timing belt look? When they fail the car will just stop running.

I'd make sure he re-does the ECU wiring to eliminate the loop going to/from the S-AFC as the ECU will no longer be getting a MAF signal if he doesn't :dsm:

could be your crankshaft position sensor. if your car isn't getting any spark or fuel that might be what is wrong, it was on my car

interesting, about the maf not getting signal hmmm. the timing belt is fully intact, and the cams were spining while the engine was turning over,

another thing i can tell you about the car is that it cranks very slowly even when jumping it off with another good running car. almost like the battery cables on the eclipse are shitty like the starter is only turning at half speed., it seems like its so slow that it would never start up cranking that slowly ( is the slow cranking due to the no spark syndrome etc..)

so if we put in another afc to replace the stolen one it would fix the open loop in the wiring

does anyone agree with the wisemen , the cable for the afc is wired into the ecu wires, but the actual afc screen is gone it was stolen, so nothing is plugged into the afc wire. would this possibly be the culprit for the no start, no spark, loss of maf signal?

also what do u all think about it cranking over slowly even when the car is getting the extra power at starting from a running vehicle. battery cables weak on the eclipse not transferring the juice to the ecu etc....?

not a wiseman ;) but the way the S-AFC works (simplified):

Stock
MAS (airflow signal) ===> ECU

With AFC
MAS (airflow signal) ==...........==> ECU
.................................||........||
............................SAFC (modified signal)

If you take the SAFC out of the equation, your MAS signal will never reach the ECU.
If you look at the wiring, you'll see that the aiflow from the MAS to ECU was severed and then run to the S-AFC and then back to the other end of the severed wire. If the wiring is ok, simply replace the hed unit and should be ok (obviously will have to set it up again).

Could be bad battery terminals/wires. Are you grounding the (-) side of the jumper cable to the car chasis? :dsm:

i wasnt grounding the neg. jumper cable to the car chassis, ill be shure to do that to a chassis ground when i try and start it again, in the mean time ill be looking around for someone with a safc unit i can try on the car. are the wires with the connector the same for the safc and the safcII. im not shure which model he had ill find out. thank you
