hey guys so i hit a curb and now i have reason to think its my motor mounts giving me trouble. the fact that i feel bumps in my clutch/brake pedal, and in my seats, its like i have no suspension only when i go over bumps.

my upper motor mount is also in three peice so i dunno if thats the reason the car shakes over bumps.
anyways if a shock is busted shouldn't it be bouncy instead of hearing thuds over bumps? its not any other thing like a ball joint cause it rolls and steers fine, just has issues over bumps.

Actually when a shock goes out there is nothing left to take the shock of the road except for your springs which dont have the pressure to hold the weight of the car. When you hit a bump with a bad shock, the shock is just hitting rock bottom causing a thud on the downforce of the bump. Just My personal experience.

so the spring doesnt help to bring the car back up? i was thinking it'd be more bouncy if my shock (drivers side front) went out and the spring acts like a spring and rebounds the side alot.

It does help, but it is a process of the spring and the shock. If you sit on the hood of your car, your weight is enough to compress the shock and the spring. If one fails the other is going to have a hard time doing what it should. There could be something broke or bent underneath. If it is the shock bent, it could also stick on the bend in the shaft. But I would pull the tire and check everything. Hitting a curb is bad news.

Lower control arm probably bent too. Check the distance between the tire and edge of the wheel well and compare it against the side that didn't hit the curb.

i figured it out. i replaced my shock and now its as smooth as can be. it wasnt the motor mounts. i have replied with the solution cause i hate browsing and find a problem and no solution from the thread starter.

thanks guys.
