Ok, a couple of days ago I realized my mpg was going from 25ish to 10. I had a check engine light a couple weeks prior that's cyl 4 misfire. Everytime I clear it it comes right back. Any way I was thinking O2 sensor. I jack the car up, and unscrew the back one, car runs the same. I unscrew the front one, car runs the same. I'm new to DSMs, but on my buddies Probe we found the bad one this way. When we unplugged the bad one, the car ran the same, and the good one made it idle way off. I went and got plugs and wires(needed them anyway) and cleared the code, but it came right back.

I know I need a datalogger, and the money I was saving for one it being spent on this. None of the auto part stores have a logger. A local shop does, but they charge $35 just to hook it up.

EDIT: Also, what would anyone recommend for a logger? I've seen a few on ebay, but I'm skeptical. Also, about how much would this run me?

Anyone got any more ideas?

pocketlogger.com has one. Thats the one I used to have till someone stole it.

I think it runs 125$ and you will need to pick up a palm for it.

Was the cyl. 4. misfire the only code? Does the car feel like its running on 3 cylinders?? Or feel any different from before? If it does i would check the injector to make sure its injecting fuel -- pull spark plug on only #3 but all the wires out set them on a non-conductive (WOOD) surface and dont let them touch each other) then crank it over a few times. check to make sure their is some gas in that cylinder.

If possible swap in a known good coil pack too.

If that checks out good run a compression test on the engine.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, I don't know a whole about the 2G N/t's yet.

A misfire is usually caused by a spark problem mostly. but sometimes it does happen to be the injector. i would check to see if ## getting spark to that cyl. use a screw driver stick it on the end of the plug wire and hold it really close to a metal soemthing under the hood like the valve cover, motor mount. And see if ## getting good spark. It should be a nice blue amber spark (40,000v) Also check the state of ## plug in that cyl. It could be fouled out also. check the gap also. i think the coils for the NT are fairly cheep.

I priced a coil pack today, $117. I got alot better gas mileage today, in the 20's. The fuel gauge was acting a little sloppy(it seems to when I launch it hard)but I got 70 miles off 3 gal. which comes out to about 23mpg. Maybe the plugs did the trick, but I'm still gonna look into a coil pack to see if the misfire is coming from there. I saw one from MSD one time. Is it worth getting? If so, where could I get one, as my earch came up useless.

Thanks for the help

Before blowing the 117$ on a coil pack you may not need see if u can find someone in tennessee to let you borrow theirs to test it :)

Id check your power transistor....the thing by your coilpack. If its going bad it'll make your car run like junk. Also, if your plugwires are still good, the only other things it could be besides a coilpack/spark related problem, would be an o2 sensor, or a failing injector.

The car is back to running fine again, but I'm not gonna be fooled. Every time I've had a problem go away, it comes back later stronger. I'm ordering my logger tonight, so I'll be able to keep check on things. Thanks for all the help.
