Just got a 92 talon tsi Fwd, when i got it, it ran pretty good except for a couple things i think are miner. the engine light is on, it stutters when pressing the throttle but not all the time. it feels like turbo lag. I drove the car for 2 weeks, know it hasnt been drivin or started in a week i hopped in it today and the battery was dead so i got a new one. When i tried starting it it just kept turning but wouldnt turn over and start, mind you its been pretty could all week. Just wondering if i cant get some info on the stuff i mentioned and if theres anything else you would like to share. :( :dsm: :talon: :laser:
 
sounds like the check engine code could be multiple cylinder misfire. if you tried to start your car a couple of times already then, it could be flooded. in this case, unplug the fuel injectors and try starting your car a couple of times. this will remove all the excess fuel. then plug the injectors back in and start it up. remember, this is considering that you don't have a faulty starter and that it has been very cold lately.
 
the first two things you need to check are if the engine is firing, and if you are getting fuel. to check if the engine is firing, this will take two people, unplug one spark plug wire from your spark plug take that plug out and reconect it to the wire and touch the plug anywhere on the head to ground it make sure that you do not touch the plug itself keep your hands on the wire away from the plug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hav a buddy turn your engine over and watch the plug to see if it is firing. to see if the car is getting fuel, turn the key to the run position and have somone listen for the fuel pump to engage. the fuel pump is located at the rear of the fuel tank. if you dont hear anything, you will need to see if the pump is getting fire to it with a test light simply unplug the wire from the pump at the tank ground the test light turn the key on and touch the light to each connection on the wire, not the pump. if theres no fire check the fuel pump relay. its located under the hood in the fuse box.
 
I have spark and the fuel pump works fine. I'm not sure about the injectors but i smell gas when starting. Could it be that the engine is just really cold.
 
2 things Get a long thin screwdriver and touch the tip of the screwdriver to an injector. Have someone crank the engine while you have the screwdriver to your ear. You should hear a sharp metallic clicking noise. If you don't then get a 12 volt test light. Ground the light and probe the 12 volt pos side of the injector lead with the key on. You should have a light. If not, get a schematic and trace the loss back. If you have 12 volts, put the ground side of your test light on the positive side of the battery and probe the grounding side of the injector harness. Have someone crank the engine over and see if the light flickers. If it does, repeat with the other 3 injectors. If it doesn't then you have lost the injector drive circuit in your PCM. Hope this helps
 
I would have done what you said but it started today it was warm out and i thought id give it a try and if it didnt start i would have tested the injectors. well i turned the key and the stubborn ***** started. Why wont it start when she's cold? have any answers?
 
Thanks for the comments. Anyway, first thing I would do is scan the computer for codes. Particularly the coolant temperature sensor and possibly the throttle position sensor. I posted earlier how the coolant temp sensor is very important in engine starting and running. If you can't find it I'll try to figure out how to post the link here. Coolant temp is often overlooked as a starting problem maker. Good luck
 
im gonna take it to my friends shop and hook up the scanner, ill also check out my throttle position and my coolant sensor. thanks again much appreciated. :thumb:
