I have had this 1990 AWD turbo talon for about 1 year now.The head is warped. I picked up a head from a local salvage yard. One problem, it had bent valves.I shoulda had it surfaced, but too late. If i swap the valves it doesnt cost me a thing. just time.
To get to my point. After reviewing and reading. Anyway, it turns out theexisting head was not cracked. Head gasket blown. warped slightly and does need surfaced. The salvaged head, Not all, but most of the valves are bent. I am in the process of just swapping valves now. The reason? During the time this car sat around, moisture rusted the Cams and valves.
The salvaged head has a rougher casting than the head i took off. the salvaged head has a casting mark reading 2.0 Also their are 2 less water passages in the head.
The head I pulled off: It has a slightly different exterior finish. The cams had alot finer casting. The cast marks are totally different. they look like this: G6
12
Visually they look way different. besides castings, how are they different. Am I making a safe swap? I plan to keep the G6 head for later rebuild. I have everything I need (i think) to make it run. I've port matched everything. I'm concerned about the 2 high pressure water passages. Do i need to drill them or just leave em?
whats the difference in injectors? I have the blue ones.
I am almost done with valve lapping and ready for install.
