shouldn't the turbo spin at idle?

Ok, just as it says...

1990 GSX AWD stock.... car will not boost...... at all.

I pulled the ECU, swapped it with my spare. no change.

leak tested it @ 25 PSI, nothing found.

145 across the board on compression test

no leak down test as of yet......

but when I pulled the intake hose, I started the car, and the turbine was not spinning, so I reved it, it tries to spin, but not freely.....

... with the car off, I can spin the turnbine freely.

... I took off the waste gate atuator, and held it closed, and then open, no change....

any ideas? WTF

Hey i know what you are going through, i just had the same problem with mine. except mine did not move at all. here is what i did to fix that nasty problem. i had to take the whole turbo off the car. separate the wastegate from the turbo by taking the brass colored clamp off. YOu should see one side of the turbine exposed. when i did that i took a 1/4in drive with ext and the right size metric socket and turned the turbine, on the non exposed part where the intake is, using the ratchet. ( there is a nut in the turbo attached to the turbine that keeps the whole assembly together) that is to free up any junk on the inside. now grab a can of carb and choke cleaner or wd40 and spray the F******* out of the inside of that turbine and spin it till it is free moving. there should be a little resistance but not a lot at all. then let it sit overnight and put it all back together one word of advice don't over tighten the oil feed line banjo bolt and don't loose any of those copper washers. you only want to tighten that banjo bolt to hand tight and then 1/4 - 1/2 turn past that. if that still leaks tighten 1/8 turn till it stops. :dsm:

If that is not the problem then i think that you are getting back pressure from somewhere i just niticed that when you have the car off that is spins freely?? hummmm WTF idk one of those two solutions should help you. post results and let me know if this helps. :dsm:

Ok I am at a loss here, took off the turbo, cleaned it off, checked the waste gate actuator out, pops open about 10 psi.... turbo spins free, looks good on both sides.... still no boost...:(

alot of oil smoke now..... could the center seal be out, and cause it not to create boost?

The car runs fine, will rev to 6K or so, drive out, will kinda boost to 0 psi, but the turbo will not spool

Your turbo's bearings(bushings) are dead.

You have two options:

Rebuild it, this can be cheap if the housing, shaft, and impellers are fine.

Replace it, generally this is a bit more money but heck you can get a 16g from just about any shop for less then getting a 14b from Mitsu.
