Thanks to all in the past that have gotten me this far. I got a 1995 Eclipse NT for just about free and it had a pretty good 'tap or knock' Anyway, through a lot of narrowing down (thanks to you folks), I pulled the pan and found this on the #1 rod. The movement was about 3/32 or so from the front of the car to the rear. I also found slight (1/32) on #4 in the same axis. Absolutely no play in that axis on the other two rods. I doubt that anyone could see this, but the journal looks and feels pretty good. I mean, I can feel a ridge or two with my nail, but not even enough to hang up on. By the way, I don't even know if they spun it or not, the two halves were 180 out from each other. Question: Is it possible that the bearing didn't spin, and self destructed, while leaving the crank journal undamaged? :( Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

That sucks, that bearing looks pretty gross. Is it possible theres no crank damage? maybe. Unfortunately chances are your crank journal is going to be damaged. Theres the right way, and the cheap way to fix things. Speaking from experience, going to cheap way will fail you, and you'll have to do it the right way. I'd say pull the motor, have a machinist look at it. If you can feel a ridge (even a small one) you're going to run into problems unless you get it fixed properly Remember how precise these bearings are, and how many revolutions they have to turn, any ridge will cause a problem. Ain't DSM's fun :thumb:
