Okay, so I've got this friend who has(had) a 95 eclipse, non turbo, who, about a year ago noticed a real loud tick, or a soft knock coming from the timing belt side of the valve cover. Told me he'd sell it to me cheap (free), if I'd just come and get it. Picked it up, started it up, and there it is. The thing runs smooth (at an idle, scared to rev it), but there is this knock. Pulled the valve cover, didn't see anything wierd. I'm afraid it's a spun rod bearing. One thing tho, when I do rev it up to about 2000 rpm, during the decel, the knock is just about gone. Once it stabilizes, it's back. I've searched the forums, but am not sure if I'm truly dealing with a rod knock or a bad "valve lash adjuster". I'm not sure where to go from here; ie what steps and what order. And how do I test the lifters? I appreciate any and all help. Thanks
One other thing, he had the oil changed a few days before the knocking was noticed.
Thanks again
