I just spent the last month(mostly waiting and finding parts) to rebuild my sunroof. Finally I have:
- Brand new sunroof cables, extra lithum white grease added
- 1 Brand new RH rail, extra lithum white grease added
- Two new spring stoppers that sit at the rear of the rails
The motor is functional and I cleaned and regreased the gear, the open/close switch is functional disassembled and checked all connections and is fine.
Now, the bi*** part. The Sunroof "ECU" module/control unit. First off, its got a stupid little black plastic tab on it. I broke off the tab on my original one, but I happened to find a replacement module in the junkyard today that appears to be in better condition than mine. Regardless, I can still use my original one for testing purposes. I followed the sunroof pdf that Defiant likes to post in regards to sunroof questions, and it shows how to time this module. I watched the little "viewing window" until the white timing marks appeared on the top and bottom which is supposed to indicate the closed position(I also happen to see other white timing marks along the line which I've tried too).
Now the problem - after everything is reinstalled and the module timed, the sunroof does any of the following weird random things:
- Opens the full way without stopping at the tilt position and proceeds until it has to hit the end stoppers and will not reverse to the close position at all.
- Opens the full way without stopping at the tilt position and proceeds to the end close position without making any hitting noises, reverses to the close position but once it hits the close position it bounces back to the tilt position.
- Opens the full way without stopping at the tilt position and proceeds to the end close position, reverses to the close position.
From what I understand, the 2g sunroof is supposed to do the following:
FROM CLOSE -> OPENS TO THE TILT POSITION -> PROCEEDS TO THE FULLY OPEN POSITION -> PROCEEDS BACK TO THE CLOSE POSITION
The only commanility I'm getting out of the three results is that it will not open to the tilt position. I've played around with all the timing marks I can see, attempted to adjust the mounting and tightness of the TWO different control units, double checked that everything is in line and is tight. I need some insight here, thanks guys. I'm getting
