Ok well i have been trying to get my AC up and running.. I converted it to R134a the other day, and filled it up with 1.30 pounds. Turned it on and watched the gauges...Low side drops to ZERO and high side is a little over 100. I decided to put in a little more r134a to see what happens (put it at 1.75), same thing. If i give it a little gas the Low side will pull into a vacuum! Well thats it, the TXV is shot! Now, do i replace it or just let it be? Hmmmm i like AC, so I'm thinking about replacing it, but the only way to get to this sucker is to pull the dash according to my Haynes. Anyone know of a better way to get to it? How bad is pulling a 1G dash?

hmmm...never heard of a thermal expansion valve...didnt know any of them were thermal...and to my knowledge you should never have to remove a dash to replace an expansion valve...i work at a place that deals with a/c parts and stuff for automobiles..and honestly never heard of someone having to remove the dash to replace an expansion valve...should all be under the hood...are you sure it isnt your compressor thats messed up?

I'm in the same boat here, my expansion valve is shot. All I know is it's in a black box under the dash on the passenger side, I hope the dash doesn't have to come out for this one.

Surf's up! I'll find an answer

please dont be fooled all you have to pull is the glove box to get to it,once this is off you have the connector and if i remember clearly 2 or 4 12mm bolts holding the evaporator core, the valve is located right on the evaporator core so you might have to open up the plastic casing while you are at it i am pretty sure the inside will need a serious clean up as well good luck

Is this the same on the 1gs and 2 gs? A buddy of mine thinks he needs an expansion valve and a mechanic told him it would cost 100 bucks to get in there to do it on a 1g.
