Posting this for my friend-
Problems started and the car would spew white smoke after it warmed up. The oil is a dry housing so it eliminated a turbo problem. A buddy checked compression and all was good so we figured it had to be a bad head gasket. Pulled the head off, took the head to be checked and decked, mirror finish (all was fine) and replced the HG with a cometic and ARP studs. Buttoned everything back up and the problem is still there, but now the car doesn't even need to warm up before smoking.
We pulled the plugs while the car was running to see if it was isolated to one cylinder. Number 4 puzzles me. The car still smokes out of the exhaust when the plugs are pulled out one at a time. However steam shoots out of the plug hole on 4 but only when the car is shut off. When the motor is runnig and plug 4 is taken out it won't steam/smoke form the plug hole. As soon as you turn it off steam shoots right out.
A first thought is the block finish is far too gone for the cometic head gaskett, but that really doesn't explain why steam only comes form cylinder 4 when you shut the car off, and doesn't doo the above for any other cylinders. A far off guess is that the head could be cracked by the egr, pulling water in that way, but I think that is a shot in the dark.
Any thoughts?
