I posted yesterday with some problems I was having with my 1991 GSX. You can refer to the post here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191091

I changed the plugs and wires, the bucking has 100% stopped. I am now left with the problem that the car dies off at 5000rpm. It is just screaming at 5k and does not want to go much further. Also the boost does not go past ~10psi. I am going to perform a boost leak test ASAP, but I was also wondering if it could be wastegate related. This is my first turbo car, so I don't really know the possiblilties of what can be wrong. If someone can just help me by listing what could be wrong, and how I can check if it is that, it would be greatly appreciated. This way I can just run down the list of what it can be so I can get to the bottom of this. Thank you for your help.

I did not read your other post...

Check for shaft play before you do a boost leak check.

please update your vehicle profile so we can further help you.

the car is a BONE STOCK 1991 Eclipse GSX with 109,000 miles. It has a brand new head, timing belt, water pump, air filter and new plugs and wires. Other than that it is untouched. it was bucking upon hard acceleration, but the new plugs and wires fixed that. The boost only goes up to about 10psi (in between 7 and 14 on the stock gauge) and it is hard to rev after 5000 rpms. I know not much about turbos so I'm just looking for posiblities on the problem, and how I might be able to fix those posibilities.

first off DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE STOCK GAUGE. The stock boost gauge is worthless. Get an aftermarket one.
it sounds like to me that you just have mulitple boost leaks. check all connections, injector o rings, Throttle body, etc...

thanks for your assistance, i was wondering where besides where you already listed, and besides the obvious hoses and intercooler parts, where else boost can leak from? Also could it be a wastegate problem, and how can i find this out?

I'm wondering if this is some kind of secret code......

Anywhere air travels in relation to the turbo can possibly have a boost leak. Including in the middle of your piping. Does your turbo sound different than before? It's is screeching? If so you're probably hitting the housing with the wheel. A.K.A. bad turbo.

In order to better troubleshoot you need to pick up an aftermarket boost gauge as stated.

I'm wondering if your clutch is slipping also....? :)

Pick up a gauge, wire it up and do a pull. Monitor your boost level on the gauge and pay attention to your RPM. If you're sitting at the same rpm for a little while and there's no difference in engine performance other than just kinda sitting there, it's your clutch.

If you notice your boost gets to a certain level then you hear a bad noise, it's your turbo. If you get to a certain boost level and the boost just drops off, it's a boost leak. And if you hear a thud, you hit a cat. You should have been watching the road :nono:
