Hello. I ahve a major problem. 90 Laser FWD turbo. I had some smoking issues that leaded to a bad turbo. Oil in the ic pipes and inlet of turbo. So, I bought a Hahn Super 20G off of a buddy. Came off of a running car, that did not smoke - until he spun a bearing. Anyhow, I get it swapped on, and the problem consists. I disconnect the o2 housing to check things out, and let it run. Raw oil, not burnt oil is constantly dripping out of the o2 housing. and I can see traces of leakage fro mthe manifold to turbo. So, I pull the exhaust mani off to see where the oil is coming from. Let it run, and no oil comes out of the head while running. However, As I watch, the oil is still dripping from the o2 housing, and inside the turbine housing and wastegate passage, there is STANDING OIL!!! Just puddled up inside the turbo. Where the heck can this be coming from? All my lines are in the correct, stock placement. So, maybe it wasnt the turbo to begin with?

Anyone have any ideas???

So was the oil in the O2 housing / turbine housing cleaned up prior to the testing after removal?

If so likely you have a restriction in the turbo oil return line or excessive crancase pressure causing the oil to flow past the seal.

If not, another possibility is that you have bad exhaust valve seals in your head. New seals cost $25-35 and can be replaced (though a PITA) with the head still installed.

Okay.... you're ruling out possibilties that are still alive.

Was there oil in the runners when you pulled the manifold off?

Yes: turbo is possibly fine..... but it sounds like it's shot as well....
No: Turbo definatly....

Pull the spark plugs and see how bad they look. I'm almost 100% sure that they're covered in burnt oil. Piston rings are done.....

Sorry about the bad news...

No, the plugs look just fine. And the compression test shows 135psi in all four cylinders.

You know what.. i think that might be it.. I had to custom make the oil return line because the one i had was at the wrong angle.. I used the stock 1g return line, but cut it, put in a piece of rubber oil cooler hose, and connected to the other cut side of the return side. However, the hose was too long, and crimped, i was in a hurry to get back to work. I totally forgot about that!!!

I'll try, and let you know.

Definitely check that out. The drain line should angle downward at all points and be as lage a diameter as possible to prevent oil from backing up into the turbo :thumb:
