ok i still dont know whats wrong with my talon. it just doesnt have the power like it should. i dont know if i need new fuel injectors or what?

but heres whats going on. The RPM's stop at 4-5,000 in gears and i know it shouldnt do that, when i have it floored it doesnt have as much power as when i have the throttle half way down. what could be going on? should i buy new fuel injectors? new spark plug wires? i got new spark plugs so it shouldnt be that. and if so then how do u gap spark plugs?

thanks in advance.

Some Possibilities:
1.) Plugs wrong type / gapped wrong
2.) Catalytic converter clogged or other exhaust obstruction
3.) Engine rings/valves bad => Compression check will tell
4.) Fuel filter clogged
5.) Injectors clogged
6.) Intake restriction (dirty air cleaner, blockage in intake)
7.) Intake leak btw MAS and Throttle Body

i got new spark plugs so it shouldnt be that. and if so then how do u gap spark plugs?

WTF with all the resources available, please tell me you aren't serious?

kragen or auto zone will gap them for free. then you dont have to learn a darn thing. im mean but i was serious they will do it

I'm not sure what the rule is for ESI's. With TSI's the book says to gap the plugs to 34, well... that's actually wrong. Go and search around on VFAQ to try and find exactly what to gap them to.

Just remember. The DSM community has more experience with DSM's than your local auto parts store :) :thumb: Good luck.

Oh, the above information is awesome. Go through that checklist ^^^ and you WILL find your problem. Post back and let us know how it goes.

A better idea is to check the emissions sticker on the underside of the hood. This will tell your base timing (1Gs) idle speed and plug gap :thumb:

^^ going from memory as my OEM hood met with an unfriendly lightpost 10 years back

Or you could check under the hood :thumb: LOL

Good memory DSM90AWD. 10 years is a long time to remember a sticker. Must have been a great help at a point in time huh?

well thanks alot guys. what one of those things should i get checked first on that list?

edit: i can also smell gas while shifting and such occasionally.

Do you have a CEL and rough idle? If you smell fuel you're either leaking (bad injector seal) or you're running pig rich.

nope i dont believe im leaking gas. how do i make it stop running rich?

should i buy new venom fuel injectors first and see if that solves it?

edit: and yes i can see the rpm needle move a bit during an idle. and whats CEL?

Okay.
Take a nice sniff around your injectors, if you smell fuel real strong, you're leaking fuel.
Otherwise injectors won't solve your problem.
O2 sensor or maf is what I would be looking at.

ok so after i drive it smell around where the injectors are and if i smell fuel then i need new ones?

also when i brought it in before they were rusty so all the shop did was clean them that was it they didnt put new ones in.

and i have a new O2 sensor and whats the mas thingy?
