I have a 90 Eclipse and my Vehicle surges. I have read threw some of the other threads and didn’t really find an answer. My Vehicle has surged since I have got it a couple months ago.

Some maintenance I have done to my car is

Timing belt:
B-belt
Water pump
All new tensioners (accept hydraulic was fine)

Spark Plug and wires.

PCV valve

New thermostat because the other was ceased and would not open. (could have been overheated in the past and melted a plastic piece in the inside causing it to cease?)

The same problem occurs after all this has been done.
What I have noticed is that when it is cold, or not above 1/4 of the temp gage it will not surge. When it gets a little past 1/4 it will surge when ever I go to stop/cost in neutral. It will not stop surging tell I am at a stand still. It does not matter if the brake is pressed or depressed. It will not surge at any time if my A/C compressor is running.

It surges from around 1k rpm up to any place around 1500 rpm. The turbo gauge will go from -7 to around -5 or -4 as it surges.

any help?

Also I am wondering about my cooling system.
My temp gage does not seem to get above ½ or really fall bellow well I am driving. But my car fills hot (then again im not sure what temp is normal).
Is there a way to test my temp sending unit? If so how?

More info please....
What do you mean you couldn't find an answer? Since you read through the surge threads(numerous suggestions and answers), what have you tried? This will help us narrow things down without typing the same things over and over. I know I've answered numerous surge threads this week alone. But I will repeat it again LOL!

98% of the time, surge is an excess amount of air(metered) bypassing/getting by, the TB.
Ways that air bypass/get by your TB butterfly:
1. Improper setting of the TB(SAS) causing the throttle plate to not close all the way. Or carbon keeping it from closing
2. FIAV
3. ISC
5. BISS screw
6. PCV
Not ranked in order.

Start with the easiest and we'll go from there.
1. Check the ISC http://dmtalon.v8eaters.com/ISC.html
2. If it checks good, it would probably be a good idea to take it off and clean the area on the TB that it plugs into(carbon buildup) and check the ISC's tip. I've seen it crack and break, probably because of the heat.

Good luck

also try to look at your gasket from your intake manifold..I had a big idle surge problem that was very similar and it ended up being a leak from the intake manifold because my gasket fell apart so I put a new one on and it fixed my problem..just my .02 :thumb:

I had some idle surge as well, and i heard a big whossssshhhhhhh in the highway the other day. I did a leak test, and there's air leaking big time from under the INtake Manifold? Could the IM Gasket have blown? how did u get big holes in the IM gasket??? How hard is to replace that?

Yeah, your car feels hot. LOL, but it's not what's being monitored.

That's monitoring your coolant temp. Your t-stat opens around 180 degrees, the gauge H is 265 degrees. If it's moving, it's working.

As to the surge.... do what VBGSX suggested. Since we usually tag team these reoccuring threads.... LOL :thumb:

Your problem is more than likely the ISC. Do what was suggested before posting back please. If you've got questions concerning the procedure then feel free to ask.

Right on VBGSX :thumb: LOL

i FOUND THE LEAK, is coming from the bottom of the IM gasket....... i think i'll have to replace it. but 1st, i need to see if the the bolts in the IM are loose, maybe if i tighten them up, the leak might be sealed, can't hurt to try............ ;)
