I was driving away from my friends house today, and got on my car a little. I took it to about 4k rpm, shifted to second, and I guess slipped the clutch a little as the tires chirped a little bit. I eased off and went through normal shifting up to 5th gear. I was going 60mph, looked at my tach and saw it reading about 2200 rpm. I had previously screwed up my tach by changing the color of the needles, so I knew it read low before. But now its even lower. Normally(after I moved the needles) the tach read about 2600-2750rpms at 60. What could I have done to my car that would cause it to drop the reading even more? I know its kinda confusing how I worded it but thats the best I could do. Thanks.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but were you in 5th gear both times?

Yup, here's a quick rundown. When I bought the car(before I screwed anything up), it ran 60mph @ 3k rpm. After I screwed up the needles it ran 60mph @ 2600-2750 rpms. And now it runs 60mph @ 2200 rpms. All those numbers are in 5th gear. I don't think that I could have blown something out that made the engine run at lower rpms ROFL

My tach crapped out like that a couple of years ago and it ended up being the spider gear that the tach reads off in the tranny was worn we turned it over and it has worked fine.
