Car is 2.0 non turbo, Automatic. 1G. 200K miles.

When the car is cold, when you first give it gas, nothing happens: IE like no acceleration or throttle response for a brief moment, then it goes. Once it is moving, accelereation is finr, it's that very first moment from a stop and you give it gas, it's like a pause before it actually gets the fuel or fires it off. Once warmed up, it doesn't pause.

It used to not do this.

Car has either bad rings or valve seals, burns lots of oil. Been using Lucas Oil Treatment to keep it from burning the oil, and it works.

I wonder if it is the fuel filter, cause it hasn't been done in a while.

Just curious if anyone knows the most common DSM reasons it could be that I could look into.

FYI: my ecu is fishy. Car started running like crap, wouldn't even idle. I forgot that I had never insepcted the ECU on this car. I had a no start situation a while back that I bypassed with a push button start (starter was not turning over). Turns out this is the cause.

Inspect yours if you have not already.

My 2g does the same thing it will start and idle round 1g almost no response when i give it a lil gas even a negative reaction wants to die it will last for 5mins plus and when it does finely start to respond normally and i put it in drive it will pick up speed very slow also at freeway speeds it doesnt have much power under load and wants to accelerate when i back off the throttle

Any check engine light? You might be running really rich from something like a bad coolant temp sensor.
