I installed ONLY the passenger, driver, and front prothane mounts today and not the back mount and after I finished I tried to start my car and damn it wont even turn over. wtf!?

I tried jump starting it, and using a brand new battery but it wont even turn over.
All my electronics work except my apexi turbo timer and the tt worked before I installed these prothanes today. The radio works. I cant find any blown fuses under the dash or under the hood.

What is wrong!? :(

Does your starter clicks or makes a sound? This is most likely a wiring problem. I'll check my wiring diagram and see.

the starter clicks like once then waits a sec and does it again and then it steadily gets faster until it gets up to a certain pace and keeps going till I stop and then I hear a wirring sound from it for a bit.

When we tried to use a battery charger after the first couple times of starting but no luck, we heard something pop but I assumed it was the battery charger cause our problem didnt change any.

OK we push started my car and OMG it started but jerked worse than any other car ive ever push started. but it ran fine, warmed up, and I turned it off and then tried to start it again but it didnt even do crap. Any idea what could have caused this?

You have a short in the starter wire harness. Check to see if the plug didnt come undone or if you wired it in check to see if it didnt ground out.

I was under the car jerkin and pushin and pullin on the wires I could see going into the starter in the two places I could see, it didnt seem to make any difference.

Well it could be a couple things.
* you could pulled the starter wire loose or pinched it while moving the motor around when installing the new mounts.
* or you starter could of coincidently taken a dump. My buddy's starter was always fine on his Talon. Then one day he went to the gas station and when he came out, it wouldn't start. It wouldn't turn over or even click. We push started it and got it home and put a new starter in it and everything was fine thereafter. So it is possible for the starter to be fine one minute and be completely non-functional the next.

How hard is it to install a new starter without taking the intake manifold off?

You just need to remove the battery and battery holder to remove the starter. The bolts you need to remove are easy to get to with the battery out, you might also want to remove the UICP for extra elbow room bit its not needed.

99gst_racer helped me with mine. you dont need to take the intake manifold out. just the battery and battery tray. i got one bolt from the top and one from the bottom. when you put the new starter in you will need someone to help it hold in place from the top while you bolt it in from the bottom, at least thats how i had to do it.

So would the whirring sound indicate a bad starter?I just put a rebuilt 4g63 in Julias Talon, the starter was fine but when I got the car to start We heard a pop and the starter making what sounds to be the same noise .Everything else is Great(not bad for My first Engine Rebuild)
Mike :talon:

yeah, i wanna know what it might be also.

I seen a guy at the train station i park at for work with a TSI that was having the same problem (would have helped but my hands broke and i didnt have a clue myself).
he would keep trying to start it but it would crank it but it wouldnt turn over....

it wasnt giving like a dead battery or busted started noise tho, it was more like a laser type noise, sounded like an ignition problem.

i kinda have a starting problem similar. after my car warms up and i turn it off if i have been driving it hard it sometimes wont start. im sure u guys know that whenever u turn the key the check engine light comes on and then after it runs for a few sec it clicks off, but someines when i turn my key the check engine light doesnt come and the car wont turn over. so i have to pull the key out and try again untill i can turn the key and get the check engine light to come on and then it starts right up. im totally lost at the cause of this...

The starter was locked up. Stupid pos. $100 later I had a new one. I love how a perfectly good starter just all of a sudden locks up from nothin :( oh well. Problem solved.
