alright, i drove the car to a friends, installed my o2 dump and injen intake, and when i started the car and went to drive home it wouldnt build boost? so i check the turbo, no shaft play, no broken fins or signs of scraping, no burning oil or puddles of it, so it cant be the turbo. did a leak test, found a minor leak by the map sensor (o ring broke) but isnt big enough to cause zero boost i dont think. i dont know what to do? when i drive the car i can hear the turbo spinning, but my boost gauge goes from the 15 vac up to 0 and stops, and i can feel that the car is running purly on the engine...it'll gain speed but in no hury. i took it to two local shops, and all they did was prove why i shouldnt have b/c they said the turbo was blown...but i really dont think that can be it, i just dont think they knew what to do. i want to try and stay away from the mitsu dealer but this was my last shot at avoiding it. so ANY help would be appreciated. Sounds like the actuator arm is not connected to the wastegate or its somehow stuck open.
 
yes it moves freely...

also had the compression tested, mechanic didnt tell me #'s but i assume they were fine b/c he didnt say they werent.
 
You said you put on a 02 dump? It sounds like the turbo is just dumping the boost out into the exhaust instead of the engine.
 
i put the stock o2 back on along with the stock intake pipe thinking that the parts i ordered where the cause, but it didnt fix it... could it be that i had a o2 dump hooked up to the stock dp and exhaust? ive never changed the boost since i dont have fuel upgrades yet, so i know i couldnt have blown it that way... the only thing is i upgraded to a fp t28 but that has less then 2k miles on? i donno everyone localally that has a dsm has no idea what it could be, and the two shops i took it to just wanted to replace the turbo b/c thats the most expensive thing they coulda done...but i donno they could be right but it sure doesnt seem that way
 
I would first check the wastegate actuator arm. grab it with your hand and make sure there is tension actually holding the wastegate shut. same thing happened to me, the cotter pin holding the arm on the wastegate lever had broken, arm had fallen off. Ive also heard of actuators failing, giving no spring pressure. If you have access to a hand pump, you should be able to make the actuator move on its own.
 
alright ill have to do that tomorrow, but is there any other things i can check for, im pretty knew at this but if i use my manual i can usually figure it out.
 
ok i unhooked the wastegate to see if it was the acuator arm that was broken...but my car still didnt build boost:( the only thing though is ontop of my intake manifold that sensor, i think its part of the mas, the o ring was broken and it had a bad leak, well i replaced that and was tighting the screws on it and the tab broke on the sensor. so i never got to test it but would that be a thing to cause my car to make NO boost? i wasnt sure if since its a part of the mas b/c it was leaking it through off the readings or whatever. this is just a total guess but thats the only thing i can find...im really out of things to do? :cry:

anyone have any ideas?
 
well my friend if it was part of the mas it wouldnt be on top of the intake manifold the only sensor with a rubber o ring i believe is the iac motor, idle air controll. make sure its not something on the intake side like a stripped hose clamp or a split connector i actually had that happen to me no vaccum leakes nothing but 3lbs of boost and it would blow out the silicon connector. :rocks: rock on p.s. i was following the thread and i was with cyber on checking the wastegate.
 
yea the sensor i was talkin about is the MDP sensor, i still havnt been able to see if by stopping the leak it fixed anything yet but thats what im gonna do today.
 
ok i have no idea what to do now...nothing ive done fixs the problem...and ontop of that the car wont even run right. itll start but then starts to stutter and i give it gas and itll stay on but if i let off it dies on me...also power locks, windows, stereo(stock), dome lights wont work. and if i put my head lights on they will stay on even if i turn them off, i have to pull the fuse out to get them to turn off...i have no idea what is wrong...someone please help. i live by south bend (notre dame) indiana. AHHH :cry:
 
damn it really sounds like the shit is hitting the fan in your car. starts out with a boost problem and goes onto an electrical problem.

#1: good luck with the electrical stuff.

#2: take the hose off the wastegate and plug that line that was going into it. if your not boosting now its definitly your turbo. just dont push it past 30 psi for long ok. just down the block and back. (thats if it works)
 
It might be the ECU. It could be messing up the spark, causing it to run shitty, and sending all the gremlins into the electrical system. Pull it out and open it up, see what it looks like and report back.

This car was brought to me yesterday to be fixed.
About a month ago Gators453 bought an Injen intake for his car, when he installed it he didnt notice it was still full of packing peanuts, the T28 made quick work of them then it shot the packing peanuts into the intercooler where they clogged the IC.
Generally a car wont run if you choke it out like that, however the engine was sucking hard enough that it was opening the CBV and pulling metered air past the MASS and into the CBV return tube (thus making it behave like a nonturbo car) Which was also why it wouldnt build boost but didnt feel like a boost leak. removing all his emmisions to eliminate any other possible problems and blocking off his EGR because it was stuck open. The car now runs great and pulls hard, the external dump sounds great.

Let this be a lesson, take your time and think things through.

Honestly, how the hell can you miss the fact that it's full of packing peanuts?! I mean, maybe if it had the styrofoam spacers inside, someone might think they're a part of the intake (if they've never seen one before)... but that just makes my head hurt. WTF

Guessing that he has melted styrofoam in his pistons too at this point... SOME of that crap probably made it through the IC.

I dont question how he did it (i really dont want to think about it), i just know what he did..

if you know anything about the physical properties of styrofoam, when mixed with gasoline, it turns into a stick napalm, so it will just burn its was out of his cylinders, no real harm there..

Waitaminute.... just an intake tube? He didn't look in the damned thing when he was installing it, and see the peanuts?

I wonder what kind of goo that fed to the exhaust wheel.

Oh, and Compressor Bypass Valve won't mean much to a lot of people here, they only know about Blow-Off Valves.

The exhaust wheel was clean, I pulled the o2 dump off. like i said styrofoam and gasoline create napalm, which just burns off..
yeah i dont care if they dont understand i dont like using improper terminology to make up for others stupidity. :thumb:
