got a problem ... came on kind of suddenly too

hey i've been driving my car fairly off and on since saturday of this week, and yesterday i noticed a strange sound from the pass. side of the engine bay (instead of the normal turbo spool up sound), kind of a medium whirrr sound. well anyway, tonight i notice it a lot more, and also that my boost goes up to .8 bar, then drops to .5 by redline. i can hear a lot of pressure being let off. i looked under the hood and when i hit the throttle a few times (by hand) i could hear air being sucked in/moving from under the fuse box (UICP leak??). also, my exhaust is a little white, and i can smell something burning, either water/coolant or oil. also, it is a little cold outside, so that might explain the exhaust. any ideas? this happened rather suddenly.
 
just drove back from the library, and now there is a sound kind of like microwave popcorn coming from under the exhaust manifold heat shield. kind of like popcorn, but also more like the sound of rice krispies but times 100. as in you can hear it from inside the car.

also, i drove by my friend on the way and he called me and said i left a huge cloud of smoke, but because its dark out he couldn't tell what color it was.

would this have anything to do with what i did when i installed the mbc? when i put it in first i had the boost source from a T off of the bov to intake manifold line, and the other to the wastegate, of course. this didn't hold any boost over stock, so i changed the boost source to the nipple on the compressor housing. i capped the T in the bov/intake line and it still wouldn't hold anything over stock, which i later found out was because of the leaky 2g bov.
 
Check your turbo for any signs of trouble, I suspect it's on it's way out. Remove the exhaust side and make sure the turbine is in good shape. Check for boost leaks as well.

I concur.

How long ago did you install the MBC? Becuase your BOV was leaking (of sorts) the T25 was probably running a hell of a lot more boost than 10psi, you just never saw it. My guess is your turbo was on its way out, and over boosting it just pushed it over the edge. The smoke you saw was probably coolant from the turbo.
 
yeah i took the intake pipe off and its got tons of play. also i can see a little oil in there, but i have yet to check the LICP for oil (i'm almost afraid to)....but i blow white smoke so its pretty much guarenteed that i'll have oil in a lot of places. already bought a 14b for replacement, just waitin on the parts. as soon as i get some time i'll get on the install, and i'll prolly make a vfaq or something on it. i know there are a lot of 16g install vfaqs already, but it never hurts to have more than one (or two) points of view. later guys..

White smoke = coolant
Black/Blue Smoke = oil
