How are the camshaft supposed to be positioned. Im working on a 90 Eclipse GSX. Right now the camshaft lobes are pointing in the same direction...I dont know if it is supposed to be this way but most cars that I worked on the camshaft lobes are in opposite direction for the intake and exhaust. Im not sure on this part and this is the first time I worked on the 4G63. Need some quick help on the camshaft positioning because im working on the timing.

Thanks for the information but i dont need all that mumbo jumbo...i just need someone to tell me how are the camshaft positioned when you set them back in for timing...are the cam lobes supposed to be facing opposite directions or no. This is all that i want to know. Is there no one on this forum that can answer my simple question?

Make sure that the (off center) pins that are cast into the cams that go through the sprockets are in the 12 o'clock position. Then the white timing marks on the cam sprokets will line up in the middle line up with each other. NOTE: when the cams are in the correct position, the exhaust cam want to turn counter-clockwise one tooth so be aware of this when you put the belt on.

When i set the camshaft in place i notice that yes the pins has to be at 12 o'clock on both camshafts, but i dont think that the camshaft lobes are supposed to be in the same direction. If you dont understand what i am talking about then here is a more detailed info.

The camshaft has these what they called lobes on the camshaft, there is about 8 of them 2 for each cylinder. On most cars that i worked on the lobes are not suppsed to be pointing in the same direction because when the intake valves open the exhuast valves supposed to be closed. By setting the pins on the camshaft to 12 o'clock, this sets the lobes to be pointing in the same direction which i dont think they are supposed to be doing that. I havent tooken off the camgears yet, i dont know if there are other pin on the camshaft. What i need to know is that when you put on your camshafts, are the lobes pointing in the same direction or are they opposite to one another. Give me information on your camshafts and not from the faq sheets...
