Hi All,
The horn on my 1G is dead. I took off the switch and tested it and it's fine, and the fuse is fine too. The factory alarm relay is unplugged because the previous owner installed an aftermarket alarm system, could this be the problem?

-Chris

Certainly is a possibility but did you actually test the horn itself? Unplug it and jumper some wires from the battery into the connector to see if it works (if you can remove the horn and bring it closer to the battery it will be easier).

I know this is for a 2G, but the basic principles still apply. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103779
I would get a meter and have someone press the horn button while you look for 12V at the horn. If there is 12 volts, bad horn. If no 12V is present, then look up the line.

I notice you didn't mention swapping out the horn relay with a known good one.

Keep the horn connected when you do this. If unconnected, you will also read 12V on a circuit that has a poor connection (resistance) in the wiring which could then be the problem. [Even a wire (or connection) with 10,000 ohms resistance in it that is not connected to anything but the battery will read 12V.]

Thanks guys- it's in the shop for a new fuel injector right now, I'll check it when I get it back on monday.

Hmm, where is the horn relay located? I didn't see it in the fusebox. Oh- and I was trying to pull the heater relay to try plugging it into the security relay, but I couldn't get it off! Is there a hidden tab somewhere?

As a side question, I noticed you mentioned the alarm relay being unplugged. I am in desperate need of unplugging mine due to the fact that it is malfunctioning. My alarm randomly goes off, and decides when to lock and unlock the doors. Where exactly is this relay located so I can unplug it.

It's in the driver side fusebox, located near your left foot. The box has a label with a diagram of which relay is which. I can't figure out how to get relays off though, there seems to be some tab holding them in.

You only have a horn relay if you have an anti-theft alarm (otherwise it goes straight to the switch). These relays have a locking tab on each of 2 sides that you have to lift (eg. with tiny screwdriver) as you pull. It's a real PITA.

I didn't know the key had to be in ACC for the horn to work. I was reading over the electrical diagram and noticed at the top "KEY IN ACC." Whoops! Tried it with the key on and it works fine. Alarm relay is still missing tho...
