Well, I've got a spinning lug stud (the nut is still on and seized to the lug, but the splines on the stud are stripped apparently and the stud itself is now spinning freely). I've already tried levering the wheel to try to get some purchase but that didn't work so now it looks like I have to drill the damn thing out.

My question is what size wheel stud am I going to need in order to replace the screwed up one (i.e diameter, thread pitch and length)? Any recommendations on brands/places to get them?

New information:

Well, I did end up managing to get the rim off with lots of leverage, a six pack and a friend, but now that I have everything all apart, it brings up another couple of questions.

Looking at the lug stud, all of the ridges on the back where it fits into the hub are *gone* -- not even a hint that they were ever there. Are there any replacement studs that will have a larger series of ridges or what-not, since I am afraid that there won't be enough for an OEM replacement to press-fit into.

Also, would it make sense to replace all 5 studs on both sides while I have it all apart? I figure that since I already have the disk off of one side, it should be easy enough to get the other one off and that way I won't ever have to worry about this crap again.

Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Okay, I've got it all sorted out and fixed now, so I'll post what I did for the benefit of anyone who has to search for this problem in the future.

I ended up having to special order the stud through Advance Auto Parts for about $1 each, and got two new lug nuts from Satan for about $1.50 each. The parts store replacements worked just fine. To install, I bashed the old one out and threaded the new one in from behind. I then threw on the rotor with all the other crap still off, secured the rotor with the four good lug nuts and used a 3/4" nut from Home Depot to put over the new stud. Then I theaded on an old lugnut, and tightened the crap out of it. The hardest part was making sure that I had it on straight, but that only took a minute and anyone can do that just with eyeballs for measuring.

All in all a real pain in the ass considering I just wanted to replace my rear pads, but not the nightmare scenario I was expecting.
