I have a 96 gst spyder and it just started making a humming noise as i accelerate and it gets louder the more i accelerate...I think its in the tranny because i cant really hear it when i'm in neutral..btw its auto. Also when i revved it in neutral i noticed i was burning oil out the exhaust which means an oil leak somewhere...it just started buring the oil tonite...Also when i'm put my car into reverse it makes a popping noise and the car sorta jumps. And one more thing, when i'm accelerating and i let off the gas quick it makes a popping noise too...sorta like the one when i put it in reverse....sorry bout all the questions...my first dsm and first turbo car...thanx

Sweet. Another dude in Orlando with a messed up Eclipse. Join the club!

What color is the smoke? Sounds like your trans may be on its way out but you may as well try a flush and filter replacement. Sometimes the fluid can get so old and crapped up and cause symptoms similar to what you're describing.

white and it smells like oil.....check oil seals on the turbo or what????

Check the turbo for shaft play, oil on the wheel and make sure it spins freely. The humming noise could be from a dying turbo, do you see the smoke under boost as well?

ok i looked at a couple of things...i just took off the intake around the inside where it is connected to the turbo there is some oil and a little bit on the inside of the turbo...also how much play is there supposed to be on the shaft inside the turbo?? because there is alot of play...like i can wiggle it around left and right and up and down a pretty good bit...

That doesn't sound good, If you remove the ic you'll probably see a lot more oil there. You're probably also dumping both coolant and oil on the exhaust side. The good news is it's much cheaper and easier to deal with the turbo then the head. Good luck.

so the turbo is the prob? how hard is it to put a 14b instead of the t25??

It seems that way from what you're describing, but you should pull the ic and check for oil just to be sure, you would want to clean the ic and piping anyway. To install a 14b you would need a 2g install kit.

ok i'll go pull that pipe and see if there is anything in there...even if there isn't...there is still alot of shaft play

ok well...no oil in the icp except for a very small amount like a little smear..which i figure is blowby...

I don't know about that. I just blew my 16g 3 weeks ago and although I only had a thin layer of oil in my pipe, I did recover about 1/4 qt sitting on the bottom of my fmic. This is why I suggested checking the ic not the pipe

oops...thought you said the pipe...well i did just finish a compression test...it was 151, 150, 150, 151....so thats good...but guess i'll check the ic tomorrow after skool...my friend has the internals for the t25 and i was wonderin if i should use those to rebuild it or just buy another one?

what gaskets do i need to change the turbo??

You will need four turbo bolts, 6cm manifold to turbine gasket, turbine to o2 housing gasket, oil return gasket and possibly o2 to DP gasket. I would also looking into getting them ported while you have it out. If you're poring them then you need a 7cm gasket instead and gasket match both the manifold and turbine to the 7cm gasket. As for rebuilding the turbo, I was told by both sbr and fp that the turbo needs to be balanced after rebuilt. I would also like to know if this is true or not, I would love to rebuild my 16g as well.

Oh, you'll also need new crush washers for the oil and water lines.

whats a website where i can get pictures and part numbers for all those? and where would i get it ported? a machine shop?
