Sault Ste. Marie,
I'm a newbie to the DSM world. I have never had a turbocharged car before and am not sure if my wastegate is actuating properly.

I have a 92 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo :laser:

I am getting lots of boost, and the car seems to be running pretty good. What concerns me though is that there is a rod that runs from the wastegate to a pivot point on the exhaust manifold. That rod does not move at all. It seems as if it is seized. I asked my automotive teacher about this, and he thought that the rod should move to actuate the wastegate.

Is there anyone who know if this is a common problem. Is the wastegate bad? If so, what is a good aftermarket wastegate that doesn't cost a ton of money.

Thanks a lot

what do u mean it won t move. did you take the wastegate off and pull on the rod and it won t move or did you try top make it move when it was still on the turbo? If you want to make sure that the wastegate actuator work take it off the turbo and pull on the rood a little it should move then.

First off, I had the engine running and snapped the throttle and it wasn't moving, so we tried to move it while it was still on the vehicle.

I will try taking it off and moving it around

the motor has to be under a load for it to reach the correct psi to actually open. I don t know why you care if the wastegate is opening or not. If you are gettin boost why mess with something that is workin and obviously something you dont understand how it works.

there is a nipple on the wastegate actator. the thing on the left of the arm. pressurize the nipple and you will see the arm move :) if it was not opening you would be running LOTS of boost.
