speedometer and tachometer won't work

just bought a 91 dsm and noticed that the tachometer and speedometer won't work. the other guages still do though. Any ideas what might be wrong?

It sounds like you may have an issue with the speed sensor. I know it's not correct to tell someone to search, but for some reason my copy/paste didn't work so try searching for speed sensor and a load of threads will come up.
