I was driving and my car was making the ticking sound that i read our cars usually make when it turned into kind of a knocking sound. My car was a little low on oil so i added some thinking that would fix it but it didn't

Well, my car started to shudder in 3rd, 4th, or 5th under even a little boost which i figured might be related to the fact there were 5 people in my car so it had to work harder. The knocking got worse after about 15 minutes and all of the sudden it shuddering for about 5 seconds straight and then started to slow down. I pushed down the gas pedal (it was on cruise) but nothing happened. The knocking made the engine sound like it was winding down. I took the car out of gear and my car died. I tried to start it with the key but it would only make a whirring fan type of sound. Thats the best way i can explain it. I put it back in gear and popped the clutch. Still no throttle response. Well, i pulled off the side of the road, called home, and we pulled my car home.

Can anybody tell me what the problem is or might be?

Well, we took my car to the shop today. The guy there thought it might be the timing belt but when he tried to start it the engine tried to turnover but didn't quite make it. He just said it sounded pretty bad.

I just recently had a similar problem. Infact Just got the car running 2 days ago. My timing belt jumped a few teeth, the car wouldn't start. Cam's were off timing and so was the oil pump. Pistons were hitting the valves (maybe that knock noise). Anyway we set the timing and the car fired right up, I drove it for a day. Now tyoday it is missing and sputtering. I think I may have slightly bent a valve when the pistons were hitting, and probably burnt a valve because it didn't seat properly.

P.S. I Hate DSM's

I talked to the shop today. Engine is toast. Timing was fine, timing belt was fine. Only one cylinder has compression, spark plug got smashed, and there is metal powder all over inside the combustion chamber. Shop guy isn't sure what happened. Valve dropped out or something he said. He asked if my car was redlined when the clutch went out which brings up a bigger problem. I'm kinda pissed so bear with me.

About three months ago my clutch went out. We took it to a shop, different than one above, and they installed a new one. After they finished my engine light was on and the car get ran crappy. Well, a week and a half later that clutch started slipping really bad. Took it back to that shop and come to find out the pressure plate had shattered. I didn't pop the clutch or do anything bad it just broke. They installed a more expensive clutch and said they fixed the engine problem. Day after i get my car back engine light comes back on and my car runs even worse than before. Under boost it would always shudder a little bit and never felt as fast as it used to. And now my engine is ruined. All because of some ********************************************** stupid shop that has no clue what they are doing. Sorry about that but i'm sure those of you who have had a similar experience understand.
