Well im finally back in the states so thats a good thing. Anyways I went to pick up my car as soon as I got in and once I got it I checked it over and put a new battery in and it was running great. Running the same way I left it if not better.

Well... I went to jiffy lube yesterday morning in the early morning to get my oil changed and get it ready for the trip to charllote that I was taking later that morning. Under normal circumstances I would have never gone to the lube. I would have done it all myself but no on was open and having no tools at all and wanting to leave later that morning I was in a hurry. So I got an engine flush and a oil change real quick. No problem.

The car always had a small tick that would increase in speed as you hit the acclerator. Sounded like the normal DSM tick. Mabey a valve. Never payed any mind to it and was planning to fix it as soon as I got off deployment. This is the motor that I got from ECP. And it had the tick right after I installed the motor. But it never got anyworse and I only drove it for about a month before I deployed.

So after getting the oil changed and heading on the way to charollete I noticed the tick getting louder. Well I thought I was hearing things. And while traving on 74 west the tick became really loud and so I stopped and I belive its a blown piston. Because its banging really loud now. It sounds like the number 3. Anyone have any idea what would cause this or what happened. There seemed to be oil around the drain plug and it was dark so I couldn't really see the dip stick.

But the dipstick seemed clean. It seemed like there was oil in there but it was 2 dark to see. I tryed starting it again and it was all out of time and then wouldn't start at all. The timing belt is fine. I never raced it or anything. Thing that sucks is that the car was being sold as soon as I returned from this trip. I wanted to take it and make sure there was no problems before I turned it over to my friend. Im glad that this happened now and not while he owned it.

Did I get screwed by the lube or was this an inevedable problem. When I bought it from ECP it was not rebuilt. They took it apart and cleaned it and told me it worked and didn't now much else.

Anything is help is apreciated. I spent almost 6 months getting the dam thing working and now this. The least I can do is find out what the hell happened.

Thanks,
Josh

I talked to some guys on another site and it sounds exactly like it when I first got it with the blown motor in it. And when we stripped it down it had a spun main bearing and the piston skirt was destroyed. Also there was nothing tramutic done to the engine as in over reving etc. Just slowly got louder. But I will defantly do a cylnder check when I get back in town later this week.

Does this help at all?

theres so many things it could be? i didnt notice you mentioning if it was RPM related or not?? when i had a spun bearing, it started off as a whistling noise in the higher RPMs, it eventually because very loud, and as soon as you reved it up it would start ticking, it was horrible sound, which appered to be coming from the head....

i think the only really way to figure out whats up is to drop the pan.... i was having some horrible knocking noise that picked up at about 4500 on this fresh rebuild i have.... i almost shit my pants, i dropped the pan, and there wasnt a single flake in there... so i begin eliminating part by part on the accesory belt... starting the motor after each one.... eventually getting all the way down to removing the timing cover... now the noise is gone... so apparently something wasnt tight.... i didnt have all the bolts in my cover, but i still dont see how that plastic cover made that kind of noise...

anyway, best of luck maybe youll get lucky...

coincidently, my spun bearing didnt start getting really loud untill i switched to mobil one... i used reg. old castrol 10W30 for the longest time.... then one day i said, i guess its time to switch to synthetic... im sure the bearing was allready on its way out, but it seems kinda odd that it changed so quickly, im sure it was just a coincident tho...

Its funny you say that because I had the oil changed that day at the lube. And they did an engine oil flush and then put in new cheap oil. And this caused the problem to slowly increase in nosie. To a horrible banging noise. And when I checked the oil. I think it was in there but it was so clear I couldn't see it. Plus it was dark.

hmm dam. well maybe the lube shop ####ed with it? i had a friend who worked at a lube shop he would put in used oil like a quart to make 2$ off a customer

LOL

i dotn trust those ####ers.
