Today I went to take the head off of my car went out and bought a 10 mm hex head socket and started one by one.....only problem is after the 3rd or 4th one i broke the socket now see i swear by craftsman tools so thats all I use. never have i ever seen this happen! so i went and exchanged it and got another one ....

but this time i got my 2ft breaker bar out ....got one more off and then on the 2nd one that one broke!!.... by this time my hands had gotten well aquainted with the cam gears. went back to sears and got another one down to the last 2 ..... got one off but the last one
that will not come out .... it broke the last one so i gave up took a normal alan key tightend them back up for tonight and will try again on Thursday. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get it off ???

wow, i used a 10mm snap on hex head with a 2 ft breaker bar, all 1\2 inch drive, and it worked fine, why not try a pneumatic tool?

I just took mine off today on my other talon. I used the same tool as you, worked like a dandy for me.

Did you loosen the head bolts off in sequence:

intake

4 6 9 7 1
2 8 10 5 3

exhaust

I'm pretty sure that's right, I don't have my haynes manual on me right now.

I've used my craftsman hex head for about 4 different heads now without it snapping. And it's only a 3/8 drive. If something is tight try simulating the motion of an impact gun by hitting or jerking the wrench. Constant pressure can cause things to strip or twist and snap.

yeah i've busted craftsman, and like 2 other brands before

i just went to my local parts store and started looking for the chepest one with a lifetime warranty

if it breaks its a 5 mintue drive to get it replaced

snap on / mac make better tools than craftsman though, IMHO

Wrong.

That's for tightening. You loosen from the outside -> in, tighten from the inside -> out.

ok, im not gonna argue that it may be wrong, but why would AllData and ShopKey both tell me that THAT was the correct loosining sequence?

Misprint- mine comes from the factory manual, and I know from experience that the "right" way is like putting on and taking off a fitted sheet.
