i need to know what a balence shaft or harmonic balencer does. my balence shaft belt broke and I was told to check my harmonic balencer. this hayns manuel sucks doesnt tell me anything. is that belt like the timing belt? if it breaks does it mess anything up? thanks for bearing with me through this :thumb:

Do you know for sure the bs belt broke? If so don't drive the car anymore until it's fixed, It willget tangle up with the timing belt and damage you head. Tell us the whole story.

well i noticed the broken belt when I took the timingbelt cover off

You're lucky it didn't take out the timing belt as well, do not drive it no more until you change the timing belt, bs belt and water pump.

water pump? is that what that belt does? doesnt make since. anyway Im changing both belts today and ill check out that water pump. Im still wondering if the belt was bad or if that shaft froze up due to my head gasket prob.

Just making sure, you do know the difference between the timing belt and bs belt right? The bs belt probably snaped because it was worned, how many miles is on the car. It's recomanded to change the water pump when you change the timing belt because you have to take the timing belt off to get to the water pump. Hope that cleared it up for you.

ok I just worked on it. thanks for the input. Ill have it together tomarow and post what happened.
