I could hear the starter relay clickiing on but the starter wont turn over, there is no power to the signal wire. what is between the starter signal wire and the relay? what else could it be? would a better ground help?

Well, I will pull it back into my shop tomorrow morning for a lil while and check my grounding. The starter is grounded to the tranny but I need to ground the tranny and the motor a lil bit better.

Check the voltage at the relay (the switching side, not the side controlled by your ignition switch)...the starter is chassis grounded to the engine, so it is going to be an issue with the hot side (the wires that run to the solenoid and the motor of the starter...

Sounds like a basic electrical issue...if it isn't wiring, time to replace the starter...

I am going to check the relay sometime tommorow night but I was just wondering if there is anything else in its path before the signal wire on the starter? I dont get anything at the signal wire when I turn the key. The starter does spin when you arc it, it is the signal wire that I am getting screwed by. For the most part, I was just wondering what is the usual cause with this condition?

I was not able to ground the engine very well yet, I will also work on that tommorow night.

What do you mean the signal wire? Is this the wire from the engine harness box, or from the relay box on the (+) side of the battery?

There is a wire that has a spade connector that plugs onto the starter called the signal wire. it goes from the relay to the starter.

take your starter off and take it over to a local autoparts store, they can test to see if it is still functioning. I did this with mine like 2 yrs ago when mine died on me.

The starter is fine, it will turn over if you jump it by arcing the wires but the signal wire that engages it does not get any power.

ok, I just took a test light to my starter relay and one wire is not getting anything from it. I need to find out where it goes. Its a green wire with a black stripe that is not lighting up when I turn the key. the other three wire light up when I turn the key. Anyone in here know where this wire goes to?

you probly figured this out already but just for anyone with the same problem Check the position of you shifter if its an auto and if not make sure your holding the clutch in on a manual so the switch the keeps you from starting it in drive or revers isnt activated. that what I think my problem is going to check right now.
