hey i have a bad problem, every time i start my car cold it sounds normal, but then after the engine idles for a bit and get a little warm i hear this squeeky noise, almost like a loos wheel coming from the side of my 2g engine that has all the belts, has anyone encountered the problem, does that mean that i need some new belts or do i need something else new. it's so embarassing to roll up to places and sound all loued and cool then once you come to a complete stop people start laughing at that noise, cause it sound like a hoopty.

there could be a couple of reasons why the car does that. it could be one of the belts or it could be the damper. also check that all the pulleys line up correctly with the belts, I once replaced like 2 belts because of the squeaquing, they kep doing the same thing after a few weeks, it turned out that one of my pullies was a bit further out than the other ones, causing the belt to squeak and eventually break.

Harmonic balancer.

just bought my 96 automatic gsx 2 weeks ago.. had the belt squellin problem to.. alternator belt snapd got replaced drove it back home saturday nite went to start sunday afternoon and pop! came off again had some tuners from f'burg, va area and also a few guys from team trinity over lookin at it.. and that was it harmonic balancer is gone.. :thumb:

i found that the squeeky noise only happens when my car is wet, like if it rains outside and stuff, does that mean my belts need to get tightened

i think thats normal because my car does it too. Whenever it rains they squeek. Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

DUDE  people have already explained this phenomenon. Have you checked your belt tension? If all your belts are tight and it still squeals take off your harmonic balancer. It is the big pully on the crank that runs all your belts. It's 4 14mm bolts. Take it off and you will see a rubber sleeve between the two metal pieces. If that rubber piece is shot you need a new one. If it looks good then come back and ask what's next.

i have this problem right now except mines a squeel... really high pitched. im pretty positive it's a belt. i just gotta find which one.

Im getting a sound kind of like that but it only happens when i gun the engine then let it idle, i got 3 new belts and a timing belt and the sound isnt comming front the left side where the 3 belts are its comming from the right side. it kind of sounds like rubber rubbing against metal for just a brief moment, but still it concerns me

Well when I replaced my alternator it started doing squealing as well but it would only do it when there was moisture in the air. Eventually I just tightened the belt and it went away, though my ps belt has been doing it lately too, I have to give it a shot of dressing every now and then. I'll fix that though.

oh yeah, and my other DSM made some rubbing and ticking sounds, THAT was the harmonic balancer...it seperated a couple weeks later

it might be your water pump after i replaced all of my belts i realized that it was my water pump. i figured it was my water pump because when i had the belt off i turned the pulley by hand and it squeeled. good luck and pray its not the water pump very hard to replace at least for me

I had the same problem like a month ago. Replaced the belts and everything i working great. Just change the belts :thumb:
