I just swapped a engine from my old 92 tsi into a 95 body. Everything is done the car turns over fine but i still can't get any spark. Is there anything i should be looking for? Here is the wiring harness i whipped together for the Cam and crank sensors http://onfinite.com/libraries/309495/62f.jpg
I'm currently using a coil pack from the original engine and it has a tach sensor pack on the back where the wires are. Should i swap the 2g pack on the 1g harness and eliminate that sensor? Well if anybody has any ideas let me know or just find me on yahoo msnger. my screen name is "stckmojo"

thanks guys!

the most successful way to go 1g into 2g is to use the 1g harness in its entirety.
To get useful guages, you tap the wires that are needed.

also.. i have a 99 ecu instead of the 95. and am using a 91-92
MD148855 Green Lid, Optical Type Cam angle sensor.

the 1G /2G ecu's are VERY different. The 2G harness is everything togeather, engine, front electrical EVERYTHING. So the 2 cannot be interchanged. Also the sensors are also VERY different, both in placement, and in Voltage out.

Ok...
1. do you have the 1G engine harness in one piece?
If so, you are going to need to find a way to route that harness into the cabin. Once you do that, tap appropriate power wires and your done and running.
If you need to know what wires go where, shoot me a PM/email and I can tell you. I had to reverse engineer a 1G harness for my engine swap.

I learned the hard way that 1G means EVERYTHING 1G, 2G means EVERYTHING 2G.

yup it's in great condition. I'm posting on 1gina2g boards on yahoo and can't figure anything out yet there.

I don't think swapping my 1g harness with the 2g would be a hot idea.

the 2G harness WILL NOT run a 1G engine without a few things done...

1. All the 2G sensors installed on the 1G motor.
2. The 1G harness/ecu ran as a "stand alone" type set up.

other then that... it will not run.

those are your choices...

You can cut the 1G engine harness down to about 35-40 wires to run to the engine bay/ cabin.

I have yet to read or hear of a "successful" 2G engine harness/ecu running a "unmodded" 1G engine.

i have like 2 or 3 friends that have swapped 1g engiens into a 2g and not had many problems. changing the harness just seems a bit extreme..if you want to send the plans over my email is [email protected]

thanks

I have no doubt the engine is fine and will run.
The problem comes in with the difference between the 1G engine sensors and the 2G engine sensors.

To have the 1G engine run on the 2G harness (and by chance is the ECU for a 420A?) that might be a problem too.

The 2G ECU wants 2G sensor outputs. So you need to find a way to mount the 2G sensors in the 1G engine. This is not that hard, just a pain. I have seen many 1G heads with 2G sensor mounted in it.

The biggest different is the CAS. If you know thew V (voltage) out of the 2 sensors, you can "adjust" one to imitate the other. IE if the 2G wants lower V/out, you can add resistors to the 1G CAS to get the reading needed.

Trust me I know how big of a pain engine swaps can be...
Try mine...
Base car, 89 Chrysler Conquest Tsi Widebody.
Engine... 90 Mitsu 4G63 DOHC T3-4/Turbo.
Trans..... Gear box is from a 86 Dodge D50.
Trans Tail shaft is from the original Quest trans.
Had to have the driveshaft lengthened.
Had to make motor mount plates.
Had to "modify" the intake to mount the throttle body on the other end.
Had to redo the 1G harness (remove everything not used-the worthless sensors) That took a week to do, moving from the sensors back to the ECU pins. Also extending the harness by 5 feet to reach inside the Quest cabin.
Not to mention making all the Hard pipes from scratch... Including the exhaust and downpipe...
The list goes on...
