Hi,
My 1998 GSX is having a slight problem. Last night I was leaving the Mitsu dealership after checking out a Lancer MR as a possible new car, and on the way home I heard a noise that sounded like something was hitting my tire, I.E. the noise would increase as your speed would increase, and would get softer and deeper as your speed decreased. However, I found nothing rubbing the tires and took the car back out and I discovered that it only happens when the car is in gear. Take it out of gear at any speed and the noise goes away, even when pressing the gas. So I take it home, put it on jackstands and I start the car on jackstands. Interesting problem, you can hear the noise when the car is in any gear and the best time to hear it where the engine noise won't over power it is about 35mph in 4th gear. It sounds like its coming from the front passenger tire / tranny case. Another thing, while the car us up like that, if you manually spin any of the other tires (except the front passenger one) all the other tires spin. The front passenger one spins, but not nearly as much as any of the other ones. I am thinking it is either:
1.) bad tranny almost going
2.) CV Joint going
3.) Brake caliper hitting the Rotor
Everything else about the engine is fine. 92k miles, never walked yet, I have a CF DF clutch and Fidanza 8lb alluminum flywheel. It revs fine, boosts fine. I am about to bring it to get checked out from a mechanic, but I want to know possible problems before hand so I dont get dicked. Thanks.
It also occured to me that my car might just be jelous I was checking out a replacement
