Hey my friend she has a 99 gs eclipse with 85kand she had some tickage in her engine and it lost power and up and died. She had a mechanic work on it and said the head was shot and he had the head redone and put it back in. And know it wont start and hes had it for too long and now im gonna fix it. Let me hear some idea's. Im gonna test the compression anyone know the stock number for compression for e 420A motor. I am gonna be lookin at ignition system, fuel system. I have a pocket logger as well to check the timing. If anyone has any ideas shoot them my way please. She is in dier need.

I don't know the stock compression test should read however it doesn't matter. Just do the test and see if they are all the same ie 185 across the board or whatever. If they are like 150 or less there's problems. I would say 185-190 should be about right for the non-turbo motor give or take.

IF it's not starting then first check to make sure the fuel pump is making pressure when the car is turning over. Second make sure there is spark, yank a plug and wire and turn it over when it pluged in and see what happens. Make sure the computer is pluged in properly if he removed it for whatever reason and check the coil pack etc to make sure that it's all pluged in nicly. A crappy connection on ignition parts will cause real problems.

Those with actual help, please do continue.

I think my first post with the VFAQ containing the directions for performing a compression test and had the specification range for 2G NT's listed was pretty helpfull given the quiestion...

VFAQ said:
2.0L NT 420A engine
Compression ratio 9.6:1
Standard compression 170-225
Service limit 100 psi .

i get to work on the car tonight and her old mechanic said hes replaced everthing with ignition system. coil coimputer cam sensor and plugs. He said that somethign keeps happening to the plugs. I am thinking possibly piston hitting plugs. But i dont think thats the case what do u all think??

I would get that compression test done and make sure to post what the numbers were please.
I highly doubt that the pistons are smacking the plugs, but a better explanation or a picture of the plugs would be nice please.

blah stupid people now some other dude thats a friend of the other guy has the car in pieaces. Shes gonna have the guy just give me the dam thing and im gonna fix it. I will provide anything. She has waited a month now and hasnt had it back.
